(Chapleau) – On September 11, 2009 at approximately 12:29 am a World War 1 Mortar Gun which had been on display in front of the Chapleau Royal Canadian Legion for over 30 years, was pushed off its concrete base causing considerable damage to the gun and base. As a result of investigation and interviewing witnesses, Michael ANNETT age 22 and Colby NADEAU age 21 both of Sault Ste Marie, Ontario have been charged with Mischief over $5000.00 and will appear in Chapleau Criminal court on November 18, 2009 to answer to the charges.

R.I.D.E - Over the past weekend officers checked 145 vehicles throughout the Superior East patrol area resulting in one 3-day driver’s licence suspension as a result of registering a “Warn” on a roadside breathalyser; various Liquor Licence Act and Highway Traffic Act charges were also laid.

O.P.P. INVOLVED IN POLICE PURSUIT WITH IMPAIRED DRIVER

(Aweres Twp., ON) - On Saturday, the 12 September 2009 at approximately 11:50 p.m. officer’s from the Sault Ste. Marie OPP Detachment were conducting R.I.D.E on Highway 556 in Aweres Township.

A black Cadillac sedan pulled up to the check. The driver was not wearing his seatbelt and it became obvious to the officer after a short conversation with the driver that he was intoxicated.

The driver then drove off accelerating west on Highway 556, narrowly missing an OPP officer standing at the R.I.D.E. check point. The driver accelerated to speeds in excess of 160 km/hr as it continued north on Highway 17 passing two tractor trailers near the MTO weigh scales.

The pursuit continued as the vehicle turned into Beaumont Trailer Park. The driver then drove through the front yard of his residence and became stuck in the side yard.

The accused, 41 year old Trevor WARNER-SMITH of 21 Marty Blvd. in Aweres Twp. was arrested and charged with the following:

Under the Highway Traffic Act: Use plate not authorized for vehicle; Speeding in excess of 50 km/hr over the posted limit; and Racing a motor vehicle.

Under the Criminal Code of Canada: Flight from Police Officer, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle; Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Drive with Over 80 mgs. of Alcohol.

Under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act of Ontario: Operate Motor Vehicle without Insurance.

There were no injuries and the vehicle was towed under the Vehicle Impound Program.
