MALE CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED ASSAULT

(WAWA, ON) – On October 19, 2012 at 4:00 am the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East Wawa Detachment were advised of a domestic assault that had occurred on October 15, 2012 at a residence on Second Ave in Wawa.  The victim suffered a broken arm from the assault and required surgery as a result of the injury. 

Later that same day the Wawa OPP arrested the accused, a 40 year old male from Wawa.  He was taken to Sault Ste Marie to appear in Bail Court Monday October 22, 2012.  OPP do not release the names of accused in domestic matters to protect the identity of the victims.

MALE CHARGED WITH ASSAULT

(WAWA, ON) – On October 19, 2012 at 3:07 pm the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East Wawa Detachment were dispatched to a reported robbery at Lai’s Restaurant on Broadway Ave, Wawa.  Through investigation it was learned that two males were dining at the restaurant.  One of the males was intoxicated and after paying for his initial meal he then ordered some more items.  These were paid for with the change from his previous bill.  As the male was leaving he became loud and demanded his change.  He assaulted the owner of the restaurant and grabbed at the cash register in attempt to get his change.

As a result 18 year old Clint CADREAU of Michipicoten First Nation was arrested and charged with the following criminal code offences;

  1. Assault
  2. Cause Disturbance
  3. Breach of Probation

The accused is scheduled to appear in Wawa Criminal Court on December 10, 2012.

IMPAIRED CHARGE LAID

(WAWA, ON) – On October 19, 2012 at 9:22 pm the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East Wawa Detachment were advised of a possible impaired driver on Highway 17 just north of Wawa.  A car fitting the description was located a short time later on Mission Road in Wawa.  The silver Mazda was observed weaving within its lane.  The OPP officer stopped the vehicle on Tamarack Ave and the driver was observed stumbling and an odour of alcoholic beverage was detected emanating from the driver. 

As a result of OPP investigation, 50 year old Maynard CAMPBELL of Michipicoten First Nation was arrested and charged with the following offences;

  1. Impaired Driving -  Criminal Code of Canada
  2. Exceed 80 milligrams of Blood/Alcohol Content -  Criminal Code of Canada

The accused was later released and is scheduled to appear in Wawa Criminal Court on December 19, 2012.

THREE VEHICLE COLLISION

(Aweres Twp., ON)Sault Ste. Marie OPP and Aweres Fire Department responded to a three vehicle collision yesterday afternoon at approximately 4:00 pm at the intersection of Highway 17 and Highway 556 in Aweres Township.

The driver of a car traveling southbound on Highway 17 made a left hand turn onto Highway 556 and impacted with an SUV travelling northbound.

The car then collided with a truck stopped at the intersection on Highway 556 waiting to turn onto Highway 17.

The forty-nine year old male driver of the car, and a fifteen year old male passenger and six year old female child were transported to hospital by ambulance.

The fifteen year old male and six year old child suffered serious non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation is continuing.

 BREAK AND ENTER

(Batchewana First Nation, ON)On Sunday, October 21, 2012 Batchewana First Nation Police were called to a residence in the 2000 block of Mission Road.

The homeowner had returned home when a noise was heard in the backyard.

The homeowner went outside and observed two males in his yard, one by his shed and the other by his house.

The two males were described as native, dressed in dark clothing with long black hair.

The two males ran to an older model dark 4 door grey car parked on the street.

The driver of the car is described as a white male with short curly hair.

Further investigation revealed that the home had also been entered.

Stolen items included two Husqvarna Chainsaws, a Craftsman lawnmower, and several pieces of gold and silver jewellery.

ROBBERY AT CLYDE’S VARIETY STORE

(Batchewana First Nation, ON) At approximately 10:55 pm on October 21, 2012 Sault Ste. Marie OPP and Batchewana First Nation Police responded to a robbery that occurred at Clyde’s Variety Store on Gran Street.

As the employee was ending the shift two males entered the store and demanded the money from the register.

One male pointed what appeared to be a shot gun at the employee while the other demanded cash and pushed the employee to the floor.

Both suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

One male has been apprehended and taken into custody.

The investigation is ongoing.
