COOPERATION WITH THREE POLICE AGENCIES ENDS WEEKEND PURSUIT

Laird Twp,

Two young offenders will appear in bail court this morning after a weekend pursuit east of Sault Ste Marie.

On Sunday morning at about 2:00 a.m. officers with the OPP Traffic and Marine Unit, based out of Sault Ste Marie, were westbound on Hwy 17 in Laird Twp. The officers noticed the vehicle in front of them having difficulty maintain lane position.

The officers attempted to pull the car over when the drive of the car sped up. Officers discovered that the car was reported stolen from eastern Canada. Officers followed behind the vehicle and requested assistance from the Anishinabek Police Service and the Sault Ste Marie Police Service.

The driver refused to pull over for the cruiser. The driver of the stolen vehicle traveled at speeds ranging from 120 to 150 kms/h. Traffic in the area was very light to nil at the time of the pursuit. As the vehicle approached the Sault Ste Marie City limits, the City Police had several cruisers and spike belts prepared to intercept the vehicle.

Upon seeing the extra cruisers, the driver of the stolen car pulled over to the shoulder of the roadway and both occupants of the vehicle fled into the bush. Both suspects were immediately captured by police.

Two sixteen-year-old males were taken into custody. One suspect is reported to be from Springhill Nova Scotia and the second one is from Peace River Alberta. They both will appear in bail court this morning charged with Possession of Stolen Property over $5000.00 and Fail to Stop For Police.

There was no damage to any vehicles and no one was injured in this incident.
