(Elliot Lake, Ontario) Police are currently investigating the theft from a vehicle on Friday night, November 14, 2008.

Sometime between 7:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. the victim parked his vehicle in the parking of lot of Centennial Arena while attending the local junior team hockey game. During this time someone entered the pick-up truck and took a Black Bell Mobility Flip phone and a carton of cigarettes.

Anyone with information regarding the above theft is asked to call the

Investigation continuing.

DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) On November 15, 2008 at approximately 12:44 a.m. police were conducting a RIDE program on Highway 108 when an officer observed a vehicle suddenly perform a u-turn. The vehicle was located, stopped by police and the driver was charged.

Charged with the following is Andrew Clarence VINTINNER (20) of Elliot Lake.

Possession of Cocaine
Possession of Marijuana
Exceed Over 80

VINTINNER is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on January 6, 2009.

MORE MISCHIEFS THIS WEEKEND!

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) The OPP is currently investigating several mischief reports from the weekend.

On Friday night at approximately 7:44 p.m. police were called to a residence on Stevens Road regarding unknown person(s) throwing eggs at the residence. Officers patrolled the area with negative results.

Police are also investigating the mischief of a vehicle on Mississauga Avenue. Investigation revealed that sometime during the early morning of November 16th, 2008 someone cause damaged to the rear window of a car parked in the parking lot of 23 Mississauga Avenue.

Also during the early hours of November 16, 2008 unknown person(s) removed two (2) feeders from the yard of a home on Mississauga Avenue and proceeded to smash them on to the roadway.

Officers also received a call from a homeowner stating that on November 16th, 2008 sometime between 12:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. culprits stole 8 solar lights from his yard and proceeded to smash them on the roadway in front of his residence.

DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) On November 14th, 2008 at approximately 9:21 p.m. while on general patrol an officer of the East Algoma OPP conducted a traffic stop on Ottawa Avenue. Through investigation the driver was charged.

Charged with Exceed 80 is David Norman SPANTON (62) of Elliot Lake. SPANTON is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on January 6, 2009.


ICY ROADS KEEP OPP BUSY THIS WEEKEND

(GARDEN RIVER, ON) – OPP responded to three single motor vehicle collisions early Saturday morning on the Root River Bridge, on Highway 17B just East of the city.

No one was injured and only one vehicle required a tow.

The bridge was icy and slippery at the time due to recent rainfall and dropping temperatures.

Drivers are reminded to stay alert, slow down and stay in control – the three key elements of safe winter driving. Drive according to highway and weather conditions. Keep a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front of you to avoid situations where you may have to brake suddenly on a slippery surface.

Make sure to check weather and travel conditions before heading out. Don’t take chances if the weather is bad. Allow yourself extra time for travel, or wait until conditions improve.

MALE IN CUSTODY FOR BREACH OF PROBATION

(Fenwick Twp., ON) – OPP responded to a complaint of an intoxicated male at a residence in Fenwick Township yesterday evening at 8:50 p.m.

Arrested and Charged with Breach of Probation is 24 year old Robin FEIFEL of Robertson Lake Road, Goulais River.

Feifel will attend bail court this morning.
