TRAFFIC STOP RESULTS IN IMPAIRED CHARGE

On Saturday November 14, 2009 at 9:20 am Superior East officers had occasion to stop a northbound 1985 Oldsmobile which had been travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 17 in Tiernan Township approximately 30 kilometres south of Wawa. Upon stopping the vehicle it was revealed that the male driver had also been consuming an alcoholic beverage and was also operating a motor vehicle while his driver’s licence was under suspension. Keith LOEWEN, age 27 of SOUFFEVILLE, Ontario was subsequently charged with;
(1) Exceeding 80 milligrams of alcohol contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada;
(2) Possession of Cannabis Marihuana under 3 grams and Possession of Cannabis resin over 1 gram contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substance Act;
(3) Speeding; Drive Motor Vehicle no currently validated permit; Fail to Display 2 plates and Drive motor vehicle while under suspension contrary to the Ontario Highway Traffic Act;
(4) Drive motor vehicle with unsealed container of liquor contrary to the Ontario Liquor Licence Act.

A passenger in the vehicle, Christopher JANICKI age 24 of MARKHAM, Ontario was also charged with;
(1) Possession of Cannabis Marihuana under 3 grams as well as Possession of Cannabis resin over 1 gram contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substance Act.

Both subjects will appear in Wawa Court at a later date to answer to the charges.

CATTLE TRUCK ROLLS HIGHWAY 17 SOUTH

(Wawa) – On Sunday November 15, 2009 at approximately 9:10 am Superior East OPP responded to a single vehicle rollover on Highway 17 south in Brimacombe Township at Trapper’s Trail, 55 kilometres south of Wawa. A tractor trailer unit hauling 98 cattle was southbound when it lost control and rolled over. The driver received minor injuries as a result and approximately 25 cattle were destroyed due to injuries. Leroy VIDAL age 26 of RAPID VIEW, Saskatchewan stands charged with the following Ontario Highway Act offences;
(1) Fail to Drive in Marked lane;
(2) Fail to Properly Wear Seatbelt.
The tractor trailer unit and remaining cattle have been removed from the scene.

CAR/MOOSE MVA HIGHWAY 17 SOUTH – On Sunday November 15, 2009 at approximately 6 pm a northbound car struck a moose on Highway 17 south, Tiernan Township at Red Rock Lake. Two of the three occupants of the vehicle sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision.


Sexual Interference Charges

(Fisher Twp., ON) - OPP is investigating a sexual assault incident that occurred on a Greyhound bus travelling west from Sault Ste. Marie on Saturday,14 November, 2009 at approximately 1:00 a.m..

A 14 year old female from the Toronto area who was reported missing on Friday 13, 2009 was located on a Greyhound bus in the Upsela area.

Further investigation revealed that the female had been sexually assaulted on the Greyhound bus by a male just west of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

The male was apprehended by Kenora OPP at the Greyhound bus depot in Dryden, Ontario on Saturday, 14 November at 4:00 p.m.

Brian Jeffery ROBICHEAU, 37 years old, of no fixed address has been charged with Sexual Interference and Invitation to Sexual Touching contrary to Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused is being remanded in bail court on Monday in Kenora and is to be transported back to Sault Ste. Marie to appear in court on Wednesday, 18 November, 2009.

The investigation is continuing.

RESIDENTIAL BREAK IN

(Blind River, ON.) On November 12, 2009 police received a report of a break in at a residence on Shedden Street in Spanish. The home owner had been out of town and when he returned he found that someone had broken into his house. Once inside the culprits stole a piggy bank with a small amount of coins, a Dell laptop computer and a canon digital camera.

Armed Robbery at local Pizza Shop

(Elliot Lake, ON) – On November 14, 2009 shortly after 9:00pm a white male approximately 6 feet tall with a slender build wearing dark clothing and a facial disguise, robbed the Topper’s Pizza located on Hillside Drive North in Elliot Lake, Ontario.
