SPEEDING LEADS TO IMPAIRED CHARGE

(Blind River, ON.) – On May 15, 2010 at 4:00 a.m. officers from the East Algoma OPP detachment stopped a vehicle for speeding on Causley Street in Blind River. After a short investigation at roadside the driver was arrested for impaired driving. Officers also located a baggie containing suspected marijuana on the driver. Charged is 21 year old Tyler MCCLELLAN of Algoma Mills. MCCLELLAN is charged with Exceeding 80 milligrams of Blood Alcohol, section 253(1)(b) Criminal Code and Possession of Cannabis Marijuana, section 4(1) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. MCCLELLAN was released and is scheduled to appear in Blind River court on July 8, 2010.

DRIVER CHARGED WITH REFUSAL AND ASSAULTING POLICE

(Blind River, ON.) – On Friday May 15 2010 at 3:36 p.m. East Algoma OPP received a complaint of a possible impaired driver in a black Pontiac Grand Prix on Highway 17 east Blind River. At 4:20 p.m. officers located and stopped the vehicle on Highway 17 in Algoma Mills. After a short roadside investigation the driver was arrested for impaired driving and brought to the OPP detachment for breath tests. Once at the detachment the driver refused to provide a breath sample and spat on one of the officers. Charged is 41 year old Donna Ann HOEBERG of Mississauga First Nation. HOEBERG is charged with Failing to Provide a Breath Sample, Section 254(5) Criminal Code and Assault a Peace Officer, Section 270(1) (a) Criminal Code. HOEBERG was held in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

DRIVER CHARGED FOR DRINKING AND DRIVING

(Aweres Twp., ON) – OPP officers conducting RIDE checks at 1:30 am Saturday morning in Aweres Township came across a vehicle with one male driver who registered a fail on the roadside screening device.

Forty-four year old Jeffery Vandette of Trout Lake Road was arrested and charged with Driving with Over 80 milligrams of alcohol.

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear for court on 28 June 2010.

OPP also issued one three day Driver’s Licence Suspension to another driver.

BREAK AND ENTER REPORTED

(Batchewana First Nation, ON) – A break and enter was reported to a residence in the 100 block of Pontiac St. Sunday afternoon at 4:00 pm.

Culprits smashed a side window gaining entry to the residence.

A WII game system was stolen from the residence.

Drug Search Warrant Executed-Blind River

(Blind River, ON.) –Friday evening, 14 May 2010 members of the OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau – Drug Enforcement Unit assisted by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the East Algoma OPP Crime Unit and a North East Region OPP canine officer executed a search warrant in the Town of Blind River. Police seized suspected cocaine, cannabis resin, money and other drug paraphernalia. A 34 year old male resident of Blind River was charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act with one count of possession of cocaine for the purposes of trafficking and one count of possession of cannabis resin. The accused was released and will appear in Blind River Provincial Court on 08 July 2010.
