MARIJUANA, CIGARETTES SEIZED (WHITE RIVER, ON.
MARIJUANA, CIGARETTES SEIZED

(WHITE RIVER, ON.) – On May 7, 2010 at approximately 11:14 pm Superior East OPP in White River had occasion to stop a westbound 2009 Pontiac, black in colour bearing British Columbia plates, on Highway 17 20 kilometres south of White River for a traffic violation. There were two males in the vehicle. While speaking to the occupants, officers detected a smell of marijuana in the vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle contained a large quantity of what appeared to be marijuana along with 500 cartons of contraband cigarettes. The two occupants of the vehicle were arrested at this time. Luc Jacques ST.DENIS age 46 of FALKLAND, BC and Marcel DESCHAMPS age 40 of GENELLE, BC both stand charged with:
(1) Trafficking Schedule II – Cannabis marijuana
(2) Posession of Schedule II Cannabis marijuana over 30 gms
(3) Possession of Unmarked Cigarettes under Tobacco and Tax Act.
Estimated street value of the 577 gms of marijuana is approximately $5700.00 while the value of the cigarettes according to Ministry of Revenue is in access of $26000.00.
The vehicle has been seized and both accused, released on a Promise to Appear, will attend Wawa Criminal Court on August 9, 2010 to answer to the charges.

SPEEDING RESULTS ADDITIONAL CHARGES

(Blind River, ON.) – On Sunday May 9, 2010 at 11:35 a.m. an officer from the East Algoma OPP detachment stopped an eastbound vehicle on Causley Street in Blind River for speeding. The vehicle was stopped but when doing so it blocked an intersection. When requesting the driver’s documents, he became agitated and verbally abusive to the officer. The officer also requested the driver move the vehicle forward out of the intersection. After numerous requests the driver surrendered his documents but then began to reverse the vehicle towards the officer. Police ordered the driver to stop his vehicle but he continued to yell at police. The driver finally stopped after other occupants convinced him to cease his behaviour. Charge with speeding, section 128 and fail to stop for police section 216 of the Highway Traffic Act is 41 year old Dale D. CADA of Sheshegwaning. CADA is scheduled to appear in Blind River Provincial Offences court on June 8, 2010.


ATV ROLLOVER INVESTIGATED

(Ley Twp., ON) – OPP were called to an ATV rollover on Saturday, 8th May at 3:30 pm on Havilland Shores Drive in Ley Township.

Two ATV’s were westbound on Havilland Shores Drive when the second ATV lost control and rolled over onto the right shoulder.

The 37 year old female driver from Sault Ste. Marie was transported to hospital by ambulance with non life threatening injuries.

No charges have been laid.

DRIVER ESCAPES INJURY IN COLLISON WITH DEER

(Laird Twp., ON) - A 16 year old male driver escaped injury Sunday evening at 6:35 pm when the vehicle he was driving struck a deer on Lakeview Drive in Laird Township.

The vehicle was travelling westbound when it swerved to avoid a deer. The vehicle rolled over four times.

The Ford Explorer vehicle received moderate damage and had to be towed.

No charges have been laid.
