TWO MANITOULIN MEN ARRESTED FOR DISTURBANCE On Saturday 07 Mar 09 at 1:50 am OPP officers were on patrol of the Town of Gore Bay when they came upon a large group of people attending a party at a residence on Meredith Street in Gore Bay.
TWO MANITOULIN MEN ARRESTED FOR DISTURBANCE

On Saturday 07 Mar 09 at 1:50 am OPP officers were on patrol of the Town of Gore Bay when they came upon a large group of people attending a party at a residence on Meredith Street in Gore Bay. They attended there after the Porter-Clark Hockey Tournament. A fight had broken out among a few people. As a result of police investigating this incident two adult males were arrested for public intoxication and lodged in detachment cells for their safety. They were later released when they sobered up.

MANITOULIN MAN DIES SUDDENLY WHILE ICE FISHING

On Saturday 07 March 2009 at 8:00 am members of the Manitoulin OPP were notified of a sudden death of male on Lake Mindemoya. Officers attended the scene to investigate and found a 68 year old male by his ice shack on Lake Mindemoya who had died as a result of medical health issues. Dr. McRae was the attending coroner and advised there would be no post mortem examination. OPP have ruled out any foul play.

ICE SHACKS TRAGET OF BREAK & ENTERS

On Saturday 07 Mar 09 at 2:19 pm Manitoulin OPP were notified of 4 ice shacks (ice huts) that were broken into on Lake Mindemoya near the south tip of Treasure Island. Numerous items were taken from the shacks that police are presently investigating. Last week ice shacks were broken into on Lake Manitou near Sandfield. Constable Allan Boyd Community Services Officer with the Manitoulin OPP advises owners of ice shacks to not leave any valuable items in the huts especially alcohol. This causes an attraction to would be thieves. These shacks are located in remote areas of frozen lakes, it is easy for someone on a snow machine or ATV to come upon them and commit these crimes without fear of being detected. Police are asking if anyone sees any suspicious or know of these crimes to call police or crime stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Any information leading to an arrest or someone being charged can lead to a cash reward and you can remain anonymous.

UPDATE: Feb 28 Car Accident

(Superior East- Wawa) – CORRECTION - As previously reported the Wawa OPP investigated a 2 vehicle collision in Dubreuilville on February 28, 2009 with minor damage and no injuries. The OPP wish to advise that Michel COURTY was NOT charged as had been stated. However, the second involved driver, Jacqueline OMOLIDA age 29 of Dubreuilville has been charged with “Failing to Stop at a Stop Sign” as a result of this collision.

ASSAULT

(Superior East-Chapleau)- OPP in Chapleau received a complaint on March 6, 2009 at approximately 5 am in which a male adult reported being assaulted by an adult female while at a Chapleau residence. This matter remains under investigation.

R.I.D.E.

A total of 16 RIDE checks were conducted throughout the Superior East patrol area resulting in 272 vehicles being checked. 4 charges under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act as well as one under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act were laid. No other infractions were noted.
