TWO ARRESTED FOR AGGREVATED ASSAULT (WAWA, ON) On March 2, 2013 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wawa Detachment were advised of an assault on progress on McKinley Street.

TWO ARRESTED FOR AGGREVATED ASSAULT

(WAWA, ON) On March 2, 2013 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wawa Detachment were advised of an assault on progress on McKinley Street.  Upon arrival the victim was transported to Lady Dunn Health Centre by Algoma EMS.  Witnesses advised that the victim had been struck in the head with a bottle of liquor and then punched and kicked by two assailants. 

OPP arrested two individuals that witnesses indicated were involved.  Arrested and charged are 18-year-old Branden SIEGMAN of Wawa and 39-year-old Renee HINZ of Wawa.  SIEGMAN stands charged with Assault with a Weapon and Aggravated Assault.  HINZ is charged with Aggravated Assault. 

Both accused have been held in custody pending a Bail Hearing in Sault Ste. Marie.

WAWA CURLING RINK DAMAGED - Update

(WAWA, ON)  On February 25, 2013 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wawa Detachment were advised of damage that had been done to the curling rink ice surface at the Michipicoten Memorial Community Centre.  Sometime over the weekend the culprits used the curling rocks to damage the boards along the ice surface and then caused a 6 inch long hole in the middle of the rink.  Damage costs were estimated to be approximately $500.

On March 3, 2013 OPP concluded the investigation into this matter.  In total nine youth, ranging in age from 12 to 15 years, were implicated in the mischief to the Community Centre.  Diversion will be completed by all of the youth including financial restitution to the Municipality for the repairs and a written letter of apology.

One charged after altercation

(Elliot Lake, Ontario)   March 3rd, 2013 at approximately 3:00 p.m. police were called to Gillanders Road in Elliot Lake regarding a possible assault.

On scene, police located the victim and the accused.  It was learned through investigation that the accused and the victim had a verbal argument in the morning of March 4, 2013 when allegedly the accused assaulted the victim and left the residence.  Around 3:00 p.m. the accused located the victim and once again allegedly assaulted him.  Police were called and the accused was arrested and charged.

Charged with two counts of assault is Sheldon Bernard Dobratz (44) of Elliot Lake.  The accused is scheduled to attend court in Elliot Lake on March 26, 2013.
