FRIDAY NIGHT COLLISION CLOSED HWY 17

Garden River, Ont.,

A collision on Friday night resulted in the closure of Hwy 17 in Garden River for one hour.

On Friday 27 Feb 2004 at about 6:00 p.m. an eastbound pick up truck crossed the centreline, into the westbound lanes of Hwy 17 and then into the ditch where the truck struck and snapped a utility pole in half. A westbound motorist saw the truck coming at her and had to pull onto the shoulder and then into a driveway to avoid hitting the truck head on.

The collision caused the wires on the pole to come down across the highway. Traffic was blocked in both directions until the wires were cleared from the highway.

The investigation and witness statements have revealed that the driver of the truck fell asleep at the wheel of the truck.

Eighteen-year-old Shane Laderoute-Chiblow of Garden River has been charged with Careless Driving and Failing to Wear a Seat Belt. There were no injuries in this collision
