RIDE CHECK LEADS TO SEVERAL CHARGES (Garden River, ON) – On July 3 rd at approximately 4:30 pm OPP were conducting RIDE spot checks on Highway 17 in Garden River. A black Chevrolet Pick up truck was stopped.

RIDE CHECK LEADS TO SEVERAL CHARGES

(Garden River, ON) On July 3rd at approximately 4:30 pm OPP were conducting RIDE spot checks on Highway 17 in Garden River.

 A black Chevrolet Pick up truck was stopped. When the male driver was asked for his driver’s license he indicated that he did not have it with him and identified himself verbally.

Further investigation revealed that the driver was not who he said he was and was under a driving suspension.

A small quantity of cannabis marihuana was also located in the vehicle.

A check of the license plate revealed the plates to the vehicle were attached to another vehicle.

Twenty-five year old Damien SHARPE of 1288 Government Road, Laird Township was arrested and charged with:

  •  One count of Personation with Intent contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada;
  •  One count of Possession of A Schedule II Substance, contrary to the Controlled Drug
  •  And Substance Act; 
  •  Three counts of Drive under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act;
  •  One count of drive motor vehicle not in accordance with permit limitations;
  •  One count of fail to have insurance card
  •  One count of fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle.

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear for court in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on July 9, 2012.

OPP INVESTIGATE SHOOTING

(Olsen Twp., ON)  At approximately 1:40 am on Sunday, June 3, 2012, Sault Ste. Marie OPP, and Batchewana First Response were dispatched to a shooting incident on Adelaide Lake in Olsen Towhship, north of Sault Ste. Marie.

Four males were staying at a camp on Adelaide Lake the evening of June 3rd, 2012.

At approximately 12:15 am two males were on the outside deck of the camp when one of the males went to retrieve a 12 gauge shotgun from the camp.  When he returned to the deck, the firearm discharged striking a twenty four year old Sault Ste. Marie man in the upper right thigh area.

One of the other males drove his ATV to the nearest residence and called for help.

The male was transported to the nearest road (Mile 38) by Batchewana First Response and further by Sault Area Ambulance to hospital.

The victim is being treated for serious but non life threatening injuries and remains in hospital.

The investigation is continuing.

No foul play is suspected.
