(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – Police arrested and charged a local male after receiving a call regarding a possible break and enter.

Investigation revealed that the victim left the apartment situated on Hillside Drive South at approximately 11:54 p.m. on June 18th, 2010 returning on June 19th, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. Upon their return the victim noted that the apartment had been entered during her absence. The subject allegedly made himself a meal, took a shower and generally made himself at home.

Charged with Break and Enter is Brent Franklin SCHLOENDORF (43) of Elliot Lake.

SCHLOENDORF is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on September 7, 2010.

TRESPASS AND MORE!

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – On June 20, 2010 at approximately 3:00 a.m. police received a call to attend a residence on Dieppe Avenue regarding unknown person(s) breaking into vehicles.

Police arranged on scene and a short later the subject was located.

Charged with the following is Samuel Noel McCLEERY (21) of Elliot Lake

• Theft Under
• Trespass/Prowl Near House (X2)
• Breach of Probation

McCLEERY remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing on June 21, 2010.

TELEPHONE AND INTERNET SCAM!! BE AWARE!!!

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – The East Algoma OPP has received calls concerning a possible telephone or Internet scam.

Through investigation police learned that calls or Internet messages were received from an alleged family member stating they are in jail in the Montreal area and require money. The complainants checked with a family member and learned it was untrue. Amounts requested can be up to and $5,000.00.

Police are advising the public if such a message or phone calls are received do not send money and contact Phone Busters at 1-888-310-1122.

MISCHIEF TO CP RAIL EQUIPMENT

(CHAPLEAU, ON) – On June 16, 2010 Superior East OPP in Chapleau received a complaint from Canadian Pacific Rail staff advising that sometime over the past three days property and equipment had been spray painted. Propane Tanks, box cars and in particular, electronic switch equipment and signal boxes were sprayed. These signal boxes alert the train crews as to whether the tracks are clear or not. Spray painting these signals renders the signals inoperable and could cause a dangerous situation to the crew as well as the public. Anyone with information which would lead to the apprehension of those responsible is asked to call The OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

OFF-DUTY OFFICERS CATCH IMPAIRED DRIVER

(CHAPLEAU, ON.) – Two off-duty Superior East OPP officers in Chapleau were driving home after completing their regular shift at approximately 3:05 am on June 19, 2010. On Highway 129 near Chapleau the uniformed officers observed a green Ford Focus proceeding into the Town of Chapleau. The vehicle was noted to be driving erratically; crossing the centre line, braking abruptly and almost striking a parked vehicle and a pedestrian riding a bicycle. The vehicle was stopped by the two officers and the lone male driver spoken to. As a result of investigation, Dylan McWATCH of BRUNSWICK HOUSE FIRST NATIONS, Ontario was subsequently arrested and charged with;
(1) Driver Motor Vehicle – No Driver’s Licence contrary to the Ontario Highway Traffic Act;
(2) Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada;
(3) Exceed 80 Milligrams Blood Alcohol Content contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
Mr. McWATCH will appear in Chapleau Criminal Court on July 18, 2010 to answer to the charges.
