YOUTH CHARGED WITH BREAK AND ENTER

(Vankoughnet Twp., ON) – OPP were called to a residential break and enter in Goulais River area on the 30th May 2009 at approximately 7:00 p.m.

The investigation revealed that a 17 year old female had (allegedly) broken into the residence and removed a quantity of prescription medication.

The 17 year old female has been charged with break and enter cannot be identified pursuant to the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

BREAK AND ENTER

(Herrick Twp. ON) – OPP were called to a break and enter on Hwy # 563, Batchawana Village on the 31st May 2009 at approximately 4:00 p.m.

Unknown parties broke into an abandoned Church and caused damage by breaking beer bottles inside. The investigation is ongoing.

Impaired Driver

On the 30th May 2009 at approximately 12:30 a.m. a member of the Ontario Provincial Police (Sault Ste. Marie Detachment) witnessed a driver proceed through a red light at the intersection of Second Line & Carman’s Way. Prior to stopping the vehicle it continued to be driven in an erratic fashion weaving in and out of two lanes and crossing the centre line. Charged with impaired driving is 20 year old Colton James Jannes-Shaule of Sault Ste. Marie. Jannes-Shaule was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled to appear in court on July 6th, 2009.

THREE DAY SUSPENSION

(WAWA) – On May 29, 2009 at 7 pm officers had occasion to check a motor vehicle on Highway 17 at the Junction of Highway 101. The male driver was found to have been drinking. As a result of an “ALERT” reading on a Roadside Screening Device, a Michipicoten First Nations resident had his Ontario Driver’s Licence suspended for three days.

TWO VEHICLE COLLISION

(WAWA) – On May 30, 2009 at 8:30 am The OPP received a report of a two vehicle collision approximately 3 kilometres south of Wawa on Highway 17. A tractor trailer unit and a 1996 Nisson came into contact at the yellow line as they met on a curve. Minor damage resulted with no injuries reported.

IMPAIRED DRIVER

(HORNEPAYNE) – On May 30, 2009 at approximately 1:20 am officers were dispatched to a report of a male subject slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle on Becker Street in Hornepayne. Officers located the vehicle stopped in the eastbound lane and further investigation revealed the smell of alcohol on the subject’s breath. Robert William BALL, age 32 of Peterborough, Ontario was subsequently charged with “Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle” and “Exceed 80 milligrams of alcohol” contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He will appear in Criminal Court on August 27, 2009 in Hornepayne.

MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION

(HORNEPAYNE) – On May 30, 2009 at 4 pm officers investigated a single vehicle collision on Highway 631 approximately 3 kilometres north of Hornepayne. An 81 year old Michigan resident had lost control of his 2002 Chevrolet Silverado causing it to leave the roadway. No injuries resulted and the driver stands charged with “Careless Driving” contrary to the Ontario Highway Traffic Act.

R.I.D.E. - As a result of several RIDE checks throughout the Superior East Patrol area 500 vehicles were checked. Two Liquor Licence Act charges and two Highway Traffic Act charges were laid as a result. No other infractions were noted.
