OPP AND MNR JOINT PATROLS, BOATERS CHARGED On the 13Jul13 OPP Traffic and Marine Unit and MNR were conducting marine patrols on Trout Lake and Upper Island Lake.

On the 13Jul13 OPP Traffic and Marine Unit and MNR were conducting marine patrols on Trout Lake and Upper Island Lake. Subsequent vessel checks resulted in 4 charges being laid for Having open liquor in open container in other than licensed premises, residence or private place Contrary to Section 31(2) LLA.     

THEATENING TEXT AND PHONE CALLS

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – The East Algoma OPP has charged one male after receiving a possible threat complaint.

The victim reports that the suspect has been allegedly sending text and made phone calls threatening the victim and his family.

Police located the suspect and through investigation he was charged.

Charged with Utter Treat to Cause Death or Bodily Harm is Daniel LOZIER (27) of Elliot Lake.

The accused is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on September 3, 2013.

DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE!

(HURON SHORES, ON) – Members of the East Algoma OPP received a call on July 14, 2013 at approximately 3:09 a.m. regarding a single motor vehicle collision with possible injuries. 

Police attended Highway 17 West of Iron Bridge and located the vehicle engulfed in flames.  The Huron Shores Fire department was on scene.

Further investigation by police led to charges for the driver of the vehicle.

Charged with the following is Troy Justin EAKET (23) of Huron Shores, Ontario.

  • Impaired Operation
  • Exceed 80

The accused is scheduled to appear in Blind River court on September 5, 2013.

The driver suffered only minor injuries as a result of the collision.

(NORTH SHORE TOWNSHIP, ON) – The East Algoma OPP received a call on July 14th, 2013 at approximately 12:11 p.m. advising of a possible single motor vehicle collision east of Lauzon Village Road on Highway 17.

Police attended and through investigation arrested the driver. 

Charged with the following is Ricky WELCH (64) of Fenelon Falls, Ontario.

  • Impaired Operation
  • Exceed 80
  • Possession of Schedule II – Cannabis Marihuana

The accused is scheduled to appear in Blind River court on September 5th, 2013.

(ELLIOT LAKE, ON) – On July 14, 2013 at approximately 8:25 a.m. officers of the East Algoma OPP in Elliot Lake attended Brunswick Walk regarding a possible vehicle and bicycle collision.  Information received was that the vehicle had already left the scene.

Police attended the area and located the male cyclist and the damaged bicycle. 

The victim stated that while riding his bicycle on Ontario Avenue a car pulled out of an intersection travelled a short distance and collided with the victim.  The vehicle did not stop. The victim sustained minor injuries.

A short time later, police located the vehicle on Mississauga Avenue.  The driver was arrested.

Charged with the following is Joshua Carl TESSIER (26) of Elliot Lake.

  • Impaired Operation
  • Fail to Provide Breath Sample
  • Take Motor Vehicle without Consent
  • Breach of Probation Order

The accused is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on September 3, 2013.

Investigation continuing.

WATER CRAFT OPERATOR CHARGED

On the 12Jul13 at 4:45 pm OPP responded to a complaint of a personal water craft coming too close to swimmers at Harmony Beach. Officers attended and checked the operator. David NADON 19 yrs, Stevens St, Sault Ste Marie was charged under the Canada Shipping Act with Fail to have Proof of Competency contrary to Sec 3(1)(b). 

SWIMMING INCIDENT RESULTS ARE TRAGIC

(ENGLEHART, ON)  Three males attended Teddy Falls on the Larder River in Marter Township to go for a swim on July 13, 2013 and at approximately 4:30p.m. members of the Englehart Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to the scene. 

A 24-year-old male jumped from the top of the water falls into the water and surfaced momentarily then disappeared below the water.  Attempts to find their friend following the jump were unsuccessful so police were called.   The deceased was not familiar with the area and was unaware of water depths and hidden hazards below the water.

Englehart OPP assisted by the Ministry of Natural Resources Helicopter , OPP Emergency Response Team, and the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit located the victim Sunday afternoon.     

The deceased, Chris HRYHORUK age 24 of Callandar, Ontario was transported to the hospital where he was sent to Sault Ste Marie for a post mortem exam to be held on Tuesday.

Police do not suspect foul play at this time.  The investigation is continuing.

MALE ON DIRT BIKE CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED DRIVING

(WAWA, ON) - On July 6, 2013 an officer from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wawa Detachment was on patrol on Highway 101 in McMurray Township at 1:25 am.  The officer observed a dirt bike travelling west bound on the shoulder of the highway.  Upon stopping and speaking with the driver the officer could detect an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the driver.

As a result the driver, 24-year-old Jonathon PURDY of London, Ontario was arrested for Impaired Driving.  After subsequent breath tests the accused was further charged with Over 80 mg Blood Alcohol Content.  In addition he was charged under the Highway Traffic Act for Drive Off-Road Vehicle on Highway.

The accused was released on a promise to appear and will attend Wawa Criminal Court on August 12, 2013.

MALE ON OFF-ROAD VEHICLE CHARGED WITH OVER

(HORNEPAYNE, ON) - On July 9, 2013 officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Hornepayne Detachment were on patrol on Kirmick Lodge Road in Frost Township at 2:30 pm.  The officers observed an off-road vehicle travelling erratically and at a high rate of speed.  Upon stopping and speaking with the driver the officer could detect an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the driver. The driver was unable to produce a driver’s license as it was suspended.  After failing a roadside breath test, the driver, 51-year-old Rodger PARKER of Hornepayne was arrested and escorted to the OPP detachment for further breath tests.

As a result the accused stands charged with Drive Motor Vehicle with over 80 mgs of Alcohol.  He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Hornepayne Criminal Court on August 1, 2013.  The accused was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act for Drive while under Suspension.  He will appear in Hearst Provincial Offences Court on September 10, 2013 to answer to this charge.

MISCHIEF TO OLD CHAPLEAU PUBLIC SCHOOL INVESTIGATED

(CHAPLEAU, ON) - On July 4, 2013 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Chapleau Detachment observed a large amount of graffiti on the old Chapleau Public School.  The graffiti is located on the north side of the closed school.  OPP continue to investigate and are looking for anyone with any information.
