(Sault Ste. Marie, ON) – On Thursday, July 17, 2008 at 1:00 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) will host the Official Opening of the new Forensic Identification Services facility at 744 Great Northern Road in Sault Ste. Marie.

The public is cordially invited to attend the official opening and to tour the facility. A variety of displays will be available for viewing and members of the OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit, who provide forensic identification and explosive disposal services, will be on hand.

DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE….

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) While on general patrol on Jun 13th, 2008 at approximately 5:52 p.m. an officer with the East Algoma OPP conducted a traffic stop after receiving a traffic complaint. The vehicle was stopped North on Highway 108.
Charged with Operate a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 Mgs of Alcohol is Daryn Richard MATYS (35) of Alliston, Ontario.

MATYS is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on September 9, 2008.

THEFT CHARGES FOR SUDBURY MAN

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) July 9th, 2008 the East Algoma OPP received a call to attend the Algo Centre Mall in Elliot Lake regarding a possible theft. On scene police learned the suspect had allegedly removed items from several stores and left the area without any attempt to pay for the merchandise.

Police arrested and charged Keith Clayton ECKER (20) of Sudbury with the following:

Theft Under
Breach of Recognizance
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (X2)
Breach of Probation

ECKER was held in custody awaiting a Bail Hearing.

OPP Investigate Motor Vehicle Collision Involving Pedestrian

On Saturday July 12, 2008 at 8:24 p.m. Superior East OPP, Hornepayne Detachment responded to a motor vehicle collision on First Street in Hornepayne. A car traveling southbound struck a five year old child who had run onto the road. The injured child was transported to the Hornepayne Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The OPP have concluded their investigation and no charges will be laid.

The Superior East OPP Detachment would like to remind drivers to be alert especially when traveling in residential neighborhoods as children can be unpredictable and dart out into traffic.
