A 22-year-old Heyden woman now faces impaired driving charges after they tried to turn and flee from police.

Last night at about 9:30 p.m. an officer was driving on Trout Lake Road in Heyden when he noticed a snow machine coming up behind his cruiser. He turned on the roof lights of the police vehicle in order to have the snow machine stop. The driver tried to turn around and avoid the stop but became stuck in a snow bank.

The officer quickly noticed that she had been drinking. She failed the roadside breath test and was returned to the detachment where a Breathalyser test was conducted.
She failed the Breathalyser tests and was charged with Impaired Driving.

Twenty Two year old Chelsea Baillargeon, of Maki Lake Road in Heyden will appear in court on 01 March 2004 to answer the charge. She was also issued a 90 day drivers licence suspension.


MORE SNOW MACHINE VIOLATIONS

The OPP Traffic and Marine Unit were also out on snow machine patrols over the weekend. Some of the highlights of their weekend patrols were two speeding violations on the OFSC trails.

Two people were charged with speeding under the Motorized Snow Machine Act. The two were clocked on radar at 111 km/h and 96 km/h on the trails. The posted speed limit on the trails is 50 km/h.


R.I.D.E. CHECKS FINDS DRUGS

Laird Twp, Ont.,

A R.I.D.E. check on Friday afternoon on Hwy 17 in Laird Twp found a suspended driver and a small amount of drugs.

Twenty two year old Jeffery Collins of Sault Ste Marie was stopped in the R.I.D.E. check. Officers were able to determine that his drivers licence was suspended and a further search of his vehicle found about 3.5 grams of Hash.

He will appear in court on 01 March to answer to his charges
