SEVEN MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISIONS REPORTED ON AREA HIGHWAYS (Sault Ste. Marie, ON) – Sault Ste. Marie OPP report seven motor vehicle collisions over the weekend on area highways. Two collisions were reported on Highway 17 east of Sault Ste.

(Sault Ste. Marie, ON) Sault Ste. Marie OPP report seven motor vehicle collisions over the weekend on area highways.

Two collisions were reported on Highway 17 east of Sault Ste. Marie and five collisions were reported on Highways north of the city resulting from weather and road conditions.

Weather changes, particularly during the winter, can occur suddenly and dramatically in Ontario.  Without warning, sudden storms and plunging temperatures can drastically change road conditions and reduce visibility.  The OPP is reminding drivers that it is critical to adjust driving behaviour to the weather conditions that can change without warning. 

Drivers must reduce speeds and most importantly, drive to the conditions. 

THEFT OF SNOWBOARD

(Hodgins Twp, ON) On Friday, January 18, 2013 at approximately 9:30 pm Sault Ste. Marie OPP received a call from Searchmont Resort advising that a snowboard had just been stolen.

A description of a vehicle believed to contain the stolen snowboard was provided to OPP.

OPP observed the vehicle on Highway 17 in Aweres Township.

As a result of police investigation, the stolen snowboard was recovered and four males in the vehicle were charged and arrested as follows;

Thirty-nine year old Jason Richard KENNEDY of Sturgeon Falls, Ontario was arrested and charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal code of Canada and Possession Schedule II of Cannabis Marihuana – under 30 grams contrary to the Controlled drug and Substances Act.

Twenty-three year old Ronald DAOUST of Railroad Avenue, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario was arrested and charged with Possession of Stolen Property Obtained by Crime under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. 

Both suspects were released on a Promise to Appear in Provincial Court on February 25, 2013 in Sault Ste. Marie, ON.

One sixteen year old and  one seventeen year old male youth were also arrested and charged with Theft Under $5000 and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

Both young persons were released on a Promise to Appear for court.

OPP remind ski and snowboard enthusiasts to lock equipment when taking a break from the slopes.

Motorized Snow Vehicle Collision

(Tilley Twp., ON) Sault Ste. Marie OPP are investigating a collision involving two snow machines on Saturday, January 19, 2013 and approximately 6:00 pm.

The collision occurred on a bush trail in Tilley Township.

A twenty seven year old male received minor injuries and was treated at Sault Area Hospital. 

The investigation is continuing.

BREAK AND ENTER

(MacDonald-Meredith-Aberdeen Additional Twp., ON)Sault Ste. Marie OPP received a report of a break and enter to a garage in the 200 block of Echo Lake Road on Sunday, January 20, 2013 .

A chainsaw and a generator were stolen sometime between 10:00 pm on January 19, 2013 and 8:00 am on January 20, 2013.
