MALE AND FEMALE CHARGED IN RELATION TO BREACH OF COURT ORDER (SAULT STE. MARIE, ON) – Sault Ste.
MALE AND FEMALE CHARGED IN RELATION TO BREACH OF COURT ORDER

(SAULT STE. MARIE, ON) – Sault Ste. Marie Police Service (SSMPS) in conjunction with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) have laid additional charges in relation to a Breach in Court Orders in the Aiden FLOYD-LAPINSKAS homicide investigation.

On January 12, 2010 the SSPMPS arrested James PURCELL, age 30 of Sault Ste. Marie with one count of 2nd Degree Murder in relation to the death of three year old Aiden FLOYD-LAPINSKAS. On January 13, 2010 PURCELL appeared in Sault Ste. Marie Provincial Court where a non communication order was imposed on him not to communicate with witnesses.

Police received further information that between January 13, 2010 and February 6, 2010 the accused breached his non communication order when he communicated with Lydia LAPINSKAS approximately 380 times while he was in custody at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre.

PURCELL has been arrested and charged with two counts of Failing to Comply with Direction in Detention Order and three counts of Counselling to Commit the Offence of Obstruct Justice under the Criminal Code of Canada.

PURCELL appeared in Sault Ste. Marie Provincial Court on February 8, 2010 for a bail hearing on these charges. His matters were adjourned to February 9, 2010 for video remand.

On January 22, 2010, LAPINSKAS was arrested and charged for Being Party to the Offence of Failing to Comply with Direction in Detention Order. LAPINSKAS was released a Promise to Appear with an undertaking not to communicate with various witnesses and the accused.

Since her release, Police received information that LAPINSKAS breached the non communication order approximately 150 times when she communicated with PURCELL between the dates of January 22, 2010 and February 6, 2010.

Police also received information that LAPINSKAS communicated 19 times with other witnesses named in the same order.

LAPINSKAS has been arrested and charged with three counts of Fail to Comply with Undertaking, one count of Being Party to the Offence of Failing to Comply with Direction in Detention Order under the Criminal Code of Canada and one count of Being in Possession of a Controlled Substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.

LAPINSKAS appeared in Sault Ste. Marie Provincial Court on February 8, 2010 for a bail hearing. She remains in custody and her matters have been adjourned to February 11, 2010.

TRAFFIC STOP NETS SEVERAL CHARGES FOR LOCAL FEMALE

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – February 6, 2010 officers of the East Algoma OPP, while on general patrol attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Mississauga Avenue. Police activated the emergency lights and siren but the vehicle allegedly turned onto Axmith Avenue and then continued coming to a stop on Tokyo Crescent. The driver exited the vehicle and allegedly attempted to run from police.

The driver Tammy BEAUDRY (32) of Elliot Lake was arrested and charged with the following:

BEAUDRY is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on April 6, 2010.

BEAUDRY was also charged with the following:

Drive while under suspension under the H.T.A.
Fail to have insurance card under the C.A.I.A.

SUSPICIOUS FIRE ON PEARSON DRIVE

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – The East Algoma OPP in Elliot Lake is currently investigating a suspicious fire. On February 7, 2010 at approximately 12:47 a.m. police were called to attend a residence on Pearson Drive in Elliot Lake.

The Elliot Lake Fire Department attended the scene and the fire was extinguished without incident.

Police noted a melted plastic gas can beside the rear left tire of a blue 2008 Dodge Ram pickup truck. Damage to the truck included burn marks, melted rubber to the rear left rear tire, burnt paint to the rear left quarter panel and a melted rear left mudguard.

Investigation reveals that the fire was deliberately set as a random act of mischief.

TRAFFIC STOP NETS THE DRIVER A RETURN VISIT

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – While conducting a routine traffic stop at the corner of Highway 108 and Esten Drive South officers of the East Algoma OPP noted that the driver of the vehicle was a suspended driver.

Charged with Driving While Under Suspension under the H.T.A. is Richard DAIGLE of Dowling Ontario.

DAIGLE is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on April 15, 2010.
