MANITOULIN OPP EXECUTE DRUG SEARCH WARRANT

On Thursday 19 February 2009 at 11:30 am – Members of the Manitoulin OPP detachment along with officers from the Sudbury OPP Drug Enforcement Unit executed a Controlled Drug and Substances search warrant on Gore Street in Gore Bay, Ontario. As a result of this investigation and search a large quantity of suspected Cannabis Marihuana, along with Hashish. Also seized was a large quantity of Canadian Currency, drug paraphernalia and two firearms.

The total street value of drugs seized was over $11,000 and as a result a couple was arrested and charged with numerous offences. They are as follows

1. Douglas J. GRAHAM age 48 of 12C Gore Street, Gore Bay, Ontario has been charged with the following offences.

• 2 counts each of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Section 5(2) Controlled Drug and Substance Act
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000 Section 354(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada
• Careless Use of a Firearm Section 86(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada

2. Tracey Lynn ACHESON age 46 of 12C Gore Street, Gore Bay, Ontario has been charged with the following offences.

• 2 counts each of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Section 5(2) Controlled Drug and Substance Act
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000 Section 354(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada
• Careless Use of a Firearm Section 86(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada

Both parties were later released on a Promise to Appear and they are both to appear in Gore Bay Criminal court on 27 April 2009 at 10:00 am to answer to the said charges.

Manitoulin Man Arrested fort Assault & Theft

On Tuesday the 16th February 2009 at 1:42 pm Manitoulin OPP were notified of a male subject that entered the West Bay General Store in Billings Township near the M’Chigeeng First Nation. While in the store the male went to the LCBO desk area and allegedly picked up a can of beer and exited the store without purchasing the beer. When the owner confronted the male over the failure to purchase the beer he was allegedly assaulted. The male then fled the scene. OPP officers were contacted and a result of the investigation the male was located a short distance away and arrested for offences committed while at the store.

Charged with Assault under Section 266 of the Criminal Code of Canada and Theft under $5000 Section 334(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada is Adam Michael DEBASSIGE age 24 of Mnaawnkwad Drive, M’Chigeeng, Ontario. Mr. Debassige was later released from custody and will be appearing in Gore Bay Criminal Court to answer to the said charges.

FOUR PEOPLE CHARGED WITH DRUG OFFENCES

(Aweres Twp., ON) – On Friday, 20th February 2009 at approximately 8:10 p.m. members off the Ontario Provincial Police Drug Enforcement Unit assisted by members from the Sault Ste. Marie OPP Detachment, the OPP Provincial Organized Crime Unit, Batchewana Police Service and the OPP Highway Safety Division stopped a 2004 Brown Pontiac Montana van travelling Northbound on Highway 17 in Aweres Township.

As a result of the traffic stop, two males and two females were arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.

The substances located included Oxycontin and Seconal with a street value of $1.135.00.

The following people were arrested and charged:

1) Stephanie DESMOULIN (31 years) of Pic Mobert, Ontario
3 counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance

2) Albert ANGECONEB (21 years) of Pic Mobert, Ontario
3 counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance

3) Robyn Rose JACOBS (24 years) of Pic Mobert, Ontario
2 counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance

4) Steven Clayton KWISSIWA (61 years) of Pic Mobert, Ontario
1 count of Possession of a Controlled Substance


All four were released on a Promise to Appear for court for 30th March, 2009.

JOINT FORCES MOTORIZED SNOW VEHICLE PATROL OVER WEEKEND

(Tupper Twp., ON) – Members of the Sault Ste. Marie OPP Highway Safety Division and Ministry of Natural Resources were out on motorized snow vehicle patrol this weekend East of the City in Tupper Township.

Seventy- five contacts were made with snowmobiler’s and people out on the lakes fishing.

There were 4 charges laid under the Fisheries Act, and 2 warnings issued.

There were 2 charges laid under the Motorized Snow Vehicle Act and 12 warnings issued.

TWO MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISIONS REPORTED

(Aweres Twp., ON) – On Sunday, the 22nd February 2009 at 1:30 pm OPP responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 552 in Aweres Twp.

The driver of a dodge van travelling westbound on Highway 552 lost control and rolled over onto its roof in the snow bank. The vehicle sustained severe damage and had to be towed.

The driver and passenger were not injured due to the fact that they were wearing their seatbelts.

(Laird Twp., ON) – OPP responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Sunday, 22nd February 2009 at 10:45 p.m. on Highway 17 East in Laird Township.

The driver of a 1996 Jetta was southbound on Highway 17 when the vehicle wheels caught the snow bank causing the driver to loose control and the vehicle to roll over.

The vehicle had to be towed.

There were no injures to the single occupant who was also wearing his seatbelt.

SUSPENDED DRIVER CAUGHT DRIVING

(Laird Twp., ON) - On Sunday, 22nd February 2009 at 2:20 pm an OPP officer stopped a vehicle for a Highway Traffic Act infraction on Highway 17 East in Laird Township.

The driver admitted to the Officer that he was under Suspension for driving.

Charged with Driving While Under Suspension is 30 year old Leroy Ian PELTIER of 33 Algoma Avenue, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
