DRIVER CHARGED WITH CONSUMING OVER THE LEGAL LIMIT

(Batchewana First Nation) – Twenty-four year old Danielle Roach of 3 Pine Grove Road, Garden River First Nation was arrested on Friday, 19th February, 2010 at 2:04 am on Gran Street and charged with one count consuming alcohol over the legal limit.

It is alleged that when the driver was stopped and checked by a police officer she was under the influence of alcohol. She registered a fail on the roadside screening device.

She is to appear in court on 22 March, 2010.

YOUTH CHARGED WITH ASSAULT

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – Police charged one after receiving an assault complaint. Through investigation police learned that on February 18, 2010 at approximately 3:40 p.m. the victim was walking home from school when a female approached her. The 16-year-old female then allegedly assaulted the victim.

Charged with Assault Cause Bodily Harm is a 16-year-old female from Elliot Lake. The charged female is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on April 6, 2010.

The name of the charged youth will not be released under the Y.C.J.A.

ICE SHACK OWNERS VICTIM OF MISCHIEF & THEFT

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – February 15, 2010 police attended the Spine Road Beach in Elliot Lake regarding a complaint of mischief to a Ice Shack.

On scene police noted that a window had been broken and smoke was coming from the window. Further investigation revealed that the damage was minor and slight charring was noted on the wall. A bag of newspapers was smouldering at police arrival.

On February 21, 2010 police received complaints of Break and Enter at several Ice Shacks on Spine Road. Police received information that sometime between 6:00 p.m. February 20, 2010 and 8:00 a.m. February 21, 2010 unknown subjects attended the Ice Shack on ATV taking tools and fishing gear a value of $500.00. Four additional ice shacks were also entered but nothing was taken.

Anyone with information regarding the above mischief, break enter and theft is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Police would like to remind everyone to ensure nothing of value is stored in Ice Shacks.

SHOPLIFTING IS A CRIME

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – On February 18, 2010 at approximately 9:30 a.m. the East Algoma OPP received a call to attend a local grocery at the Algo Centre Mall in Elliot Lake regarding a possible theft.

On scene police learned that the subject had allegedly taken several items and left the store without paying.

Charged with Theft Under is Marie Rejeanne FORTIN (62) of Elliot Lake. FORTIN is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on April 6, 2010.

THREE CHARGED WITH ASSAULT

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – Police have concluded their investigation regarding an alleged assault on February 10, 2010.

Police learned that on the above mentioned date the victim was walking home from school when three female youth started to chase the victim and her friend. The victim attempted to elude the subjects by crossing the road and walking faster. The subjects caught up with the victim and one subject allegedly proceeded to assault the victim while the other two subjects allegedly encouraged the assault.

Charged with assault are three (3) 13-year-old female youth of Elliot Lake. All youths are scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on April 6, 2010.

The name of the youths will not be released under the jurisdiction of the Y.C.J.A.

TV, GUITAR AND MEDICATION STOLEN

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – The East Algoma OPP is currently investigating a Break Enter and Theft at a residence on Amsterdam Road in Elliot Lake.

Sometime between February 17, 2010 at 8:00 a.m. and February 19, 2010 9:00 a.m. unknown person(s) entered the residence and removed a 6 string acoustic guitar with the metal stand, a 32” Plasma T.V. and a Blister Pack containing medication.

Police remind everyone that taking prescription medication that has not been prescribed to you by a doctor may be deadly.
