STOLEN VEHICLE LOCATED NORTH OF SAULT STE MARIE

Officers with the Sault Ste Marie OPP detachment recovered a stolen vehicle shortly after it was stolen from Churchill Plaza in Sault Ste Marie

On Friday evening at about 6:00 p.m. the Sault Ste Marie City Police advised the OPP of a vehicle that was just stolen from the plaza. A short time later an officer with the Sault Ste Marie Detachment spotted the vehicle traveling north on Hwy 17 in Goulais River. The vehicle was pulled over and two men were arrested without incident.

Twenty year old Yannick Charron and nineteen year old Kevin Benston of no fixed address are in police custody and will appear in Sault Ste Marie bail court today.


SNOW MACHINE COLLISION SENDS ONE MAN TO HOSPITAL

Goulais River, Ont.,

A snow machine collision over the weekend sent a Sault Ste Marie man to Sault and Area Hospital with a broken arm.

On Saturday 14 Feb 2004 at about 11:30 a.m. the driver of the snow machine struck a tree after his machine accidentally left the groomed trail. Thirty five year old Joe Kilby of Sault Ste Marie was traveling on the trail when his one ski on his machine entered soft snow and caused his machine to go off the trail.

First Response Units from Goulais River and Searchmont Fire and Rescue departments responded to the collision and transported the injured man to Hwy 532 in Searchmont where he was transferred into a waiting ambulance. This collision is still under investigation.


SEARCHMONT LIQUOR CHARGES

Searchmont, Ont.,

Sault Ste Marie OPP continues to have success with their ongoing R.I.D.E. checks all through their detachment area.

A check done in and around Ski Hill Road and Hwy 532 in Searchmont on Friday night caught five people drinking in and around their vehicles.

Officers patrolling the area on Friday night between 8:00 p.m. 11:00 p.m. discovered the offences. Five people were charged with liquor offences after being found with open bottles of liquor in their vehicles or standing outside their vehicles drinking.

These checks will continue all through the year at various locations throughout the Sault Ste Marie detachment area.
