DRIVER ATTEMPTS TO EVADE POLICE AT RIDE SPOT CHECK (AWERES TWP., ON) – At approximately 1:00 am on Friday, December 2, 2011 OPP were conducting RIDE spot checks at the intersection of Highway 17 and Trout Lake Road in Aweres Township.

DRIVER ATTEMPTS TO EVADE POLICE AT RIDE SPOT CHECK

(AWERES TWP., ON) – At approximately 1:00 am on Friday, December 2, 2011 OPP were conducting RIDE spot checks at the intersection of Highway 17 and Trout Lake Road in Aweres Township.

Officers observed a white pick up truck turn abruptly to avoid the spot check and drive through a parking lot coming back onto Highway 17 just north of the officer’s location and drive away.

OPP officers pursued the vehicle with lights and sirens activated. 

The vehicle initially pulled over on Rupert Acres Drive however, when the officers exited their vehicle, it sped off again.

The Officers pursued the vehicle to a residence on Wildwood Drive, when the driver then exited the vehicle and ran into the bush.

A foot pursuit ensued and the male was apprehended in the back yard of a residence.

23 year old Real Desjardin of Terry Fox Place was arrested and charged with the following:

  • One count of Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to Section 253(1) (a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • One count on Operate a Motor Vehicle in Excess of 80 Milligrams of Blood Alcohol content contrary to Section 253(1)(b) CCC
  • One  count of Fail to Stop for Police (Pursuit) contrary to Section 216 of the Highway Traffic Act
  • One count of Disobey Stop Sign – Fail to Stop contrary to Section 136(1) (a) CCC

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear for Criminal court on January 9, 2012 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

 

ROLLOVER SENDS FOUR PEOPLE TO HOSPITAL

(LARID TWP., ON) – At approximately 4:15 pm yesterday afternoon OPP, Echo Bay Fire Department, and ambulance responded to a single motor vehicle rollover in the eastbound lane of Highway 17 near Lake George Road.

The rear driver’s side tire of a 2000 Dodge Caravan fell off the vehicle causing the driver to loose control of the vehicle and rollover into the ditch, landing on its roof.

Inside the vehicle were a female driver and a 12 year old male passenger in the front seat, both using seatbelt restraints.

In the rear, were three children ages 2 years, 4 years, and 8 years who were sleeping on a mattress when the vehicle rolled.

All occupants were transported to Sault Area Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The vehicle was demolished.

The mother, a 37 year old female from Edmonton, Alberta was charged with three counts of Drive while child passenger not properly secured contrary and one count of Driving while under suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.     

 

MULTIPLE DETACHMENTS SOLVE BREAK AND ENTERS

(SUPERIOR EAST, ON) On December 3, 2011 Superior East Ontario Provincial Police Officers from the Wawa detachment were called to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 101 in Chabanel Township.  Upon arrival officer found that the driver had failed to remain at the scene.  Property located in the back of the involved pickup truck was found to be stolen from two separate break and enters to cottage properties on Paint Lake Road near White River.  The break and enters had been reported to White River detachment on November 24th, 2011.

Chapleau OPP Officers located the driver from the collision during a R.I.D.E. check later that same day.  As a result 34-year-old Patrick LEMIRE of Val D’OR, Quebec was arrested and charged with the following;

  1. Break and Enter x 2
  2. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000
  3. Fail to Comply with Undertaking Conditions

The accused is scheduled to appear in Wawa Criminal Court to answer to the above charges on February 6th, 2012.
