Report Theft of Snowmachine A Fraud

(GOULAIS) On the 9th of December, 2007, the Sault Ste Marie OPP received a report of a snowmachine that had been stolen from the back of a pickup truck, on Bellevue Valley Rd, after the driver had left to obtain some gasoline. This theft was reported to the OPP as well as the relevant insurance company.

Information provided to and subsequent investigation by the OPP revealed that there was no theft at all. The snowmachine was had been secreted a substantial distance up Mile 38 Rd. The owner of the snowmobile had made arrangements with a second person to remove the snowmachine. In addition to this, the appearance of the snowmachine had been altered to prevent it from being recognized by the police. As a result, the owner of the snowmachine, James C. Archibald (19) of Sault Ste Marie and a young offender were arrested and released. Both have been charged with Public Mischief and Fraud Over $5,000.

RIDE Program Continues Over Festive Season

Sault Ste Marie OPP Detachment members conducted RIDE during the Festive Season. There were 394 vehicles checked over the last seven days and it was a positive sign that no charges of impaired driving were laid. Despite this, the RIDE program will continue, not only over the New Year holidays, but regularly throughout 2008. Impaired driving continues to play a major role in serious and fatal motor vehicle accidents throughout the Province.

Break and Enter on Mission Road

(GOULAIS) Sometime, between the 20th and 27th of December, 2007, a residence was broken into and a small amount of alcohol stolen. The culprit entered the residence by prying open a side door. There are no suspects at this time but the investigation is continuing. Theft of Snowboards

(SEARCHMONT) During the evening of the 27th of December 2007 and the early morning hours of the 28th of December, 2007, two snowboards were stolen from a rented villa at the Searchmont Ski Resort. Sault Ste Marie OPP members are investigating. There are suspects in this theft but no charges have been laid at this time. ‘Wrong Way’ Motorists

Sault Ste Marie OPP Detachment has received several traffic complaints over the past week of motorists driving the wrong way on Highway 17, east of Sault Ste Marie. This is not the first complaints of this nature have been received. Several instances of motorists driving east in the westbound lanes or west in the eastbound lane have occurred. The OPP are asking all motorists to pay attention to the posted signs and to drive with due diligence.
