VEHICLE IN DITCH Impaired Driver Arrested (Aweres Twp., ON) - On Friday, November 30, 2012 at approximately 10:00 pm Sault Ste. Marie OPP were dispatched to a vehicle in the ditch in the southbound lane of Highway 17 north near Trout Lake Road.

Impaired Driver Arrested

(Aweres Twp., ON) - On Friday, November 30, 2012 at approximately 10:00 pm Sault Ste. Marie OPP were dispatched to a vehicle in the ditch in the southbound lane of Highway 17 north near Trout Lake Road.

Upon OPP arrival a grey minivan was located partially in the snow bank and partially on the roadway.

Further investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle had (allegedly) been consuming alcohol.

Forty-five year old Christopher Michael FORTIN of Harmony Beach Road, Havilland Township was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused was also charged under the Liquor Licence Act with having care and control of a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor and under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario for a novice driver having a BAC (blood alcohol concentration) above zero.

The accused was released from custody on a Promise to Appear for Provincial Court in Sault Ste. Marie on January 7, 2012.

VEHICLE STOP LEADS TO IMPAIRED DRIVER

(Batchewana First Nation, ON) – On December 1, 2012 at approximately 2:05 am an officer from the Batchewana First Nation Police Service observed a pick up truck travelling eastbound on August Street. The vehicle entered a ditch before returning to the roadway and turning around to travel westbound.

The vehicle was pulled over. An odour of an alcoholic beverage was detected.

As a result of further investigation, twenty-two y ear old Jonathon BRIAULT-DEWAR of Queen St. East, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, was arrested and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle with over 80 milligrams of Alcohol contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear for Provincial Court in Sault Ste. Marie January 7, 2012.
