SAULTBIES STUFF “THOUSANDS” INTO CRUISERS

(Sault Ste Marie, Ont.) Once again the citizens and businesses in and around Sault Ste Marie proved why our communities are just the best there is to be.

On Saturday 15 December 2007 members of the OPP Auxiliary Unit organized the fourth annual “Stuff A Cruiser” event outside of ROMES INDEPENDENT GROCERS in the Cambrian Mall.

Three OPP vehicles were parked at the front doors of the store and shoppers were encouraged to donate food items. All proceeds were being donated to the Sault Ste Marie Soup Kitchen. By the end of the day all three vehicle were stuffed to overflowing with food items. The staff of another store in Cambrian Mall pitched in and donated about $250.00 in cash. Employees of Rome’s took that money and bought even more groceries for the food bank.

One member of the public gave officers a personal cheque, made payable to the food bank, for $1000.00.

Special thanks to Kelly and Steve Rome, owners of Rome’s Independent Grocers, who allow us to use their business for the past four years to help those who use the Soup Kitchen. At the end of the day when all the food was delivered to the Food Bank, it took eight people just over an hour to unload all the donated food.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who donated. You have helped make someone’s Christmas season just a little brighter.
