ROAD CLOSURE The Sault Ste Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police wish to advise all motorists that Highway 556 will be closed at Ranger Lake due to high water levels and dangerous bridge conditions.

The Sault Ste Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police wish to advise all motorists that Highway 556 will be closed at Ranger Lake due to high water levels and dangerous bridge conditions. Local traffic to the west of Ranger Lake is being permitted, however there will be no way to access Highway 129 as the bridge at Ranger Lake cannot be crossed.

Further updates will be forwarded as new information becomes available.

OIL PAINT GRIFFITI

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) Police are currently investigating a mischief at the Algo Inn in Elliot Lake.

Investigation revealed that sometime between April 24, 2008 at 12:00 a.m. and April 26, 2008 at 9:51 a.m. unknown person(s), using oil spray paint caused damaged to walls and a door.

WINDOW SMASHED BY BEER BOTTLE

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On April 25, 2008 the East Algoma OPP received a call from a local establishment on Mountain Road in Elliot Lake regarding damage to a vehicle.

On scene, police learned that sometime between April 24, 2008 2:00 p.m. and April 25, 2008 2:00 p.m. unknown person(s) smashed the drivers side window of a vehicle parked in the parking lot by throwing a beer bottle at it. Damage is estimated to be approximately $200.00.

ATTEMPT BREAK AND ENTER AT LOCAL SCHOOL

(Spanish, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP is currently investigating an attempted break and enter at the local public school in Spanish.

On the 26th of April 2008 at 2:06 p.m. police received a complaint of a possible break and enter at a school on John Street in Spanish. On scene police located a broken window but investigation revealed that the suspect(s) had not gained entry to the school.

ABANDONED VEHICLE LEADS TO CHARGES

(Blind River, Ont.) On April 25, 2008 at approximately 4:32 a.m. officers of the East Algoma OPP were dispatched to a possible motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 east of Blind River.

On scene an abandoned vehicle was located and through investigation police charged Thomas Francis O’GRADY (34) of Eliot Lake with the following:

Impaired Operation
Over 80

O’GRADY is scheduled to appear in Blind River court on July 3, 2008.

ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON AND MORE…

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP has charged two local residents after receiving a complaint of a possible assault.

On April 25, 2008 at approximately 8:45 p.m. the victims attended the local detachment in Elliot Lake to report the assault. Police investigated and charged the following:

Raymond Michael O’CONNELL (41) of Elliot Lake with Assault & Assault with a Weapon.

Heidi Amanda ZEIDLER (22) of Elliot Lake with Assault and Mischief Under $5,000.

Both O’CONNELL and ZEIDLER are scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on June 3, 2008.

BREAK ENTER AND THEFT WHILE VICTIMS WERE SLEEPING

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) Police are currently investigating a Break Enter and Theft at a residence on Mississauga Avenue.

Investigation revealed that unknown person(s) entered the residence while the owner was sleeping and removed cigarettes and a wallet. The wallet was later recovered by a local citizen and turned over to the victim. Missing from the wallet was an undisclosed amount of money, a VISA and HBC credit card.

OPP NAB BREAK AND ENTER SUSPECT IN RESIDENCE

(Aweres Twp., Ont.) Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police were called to a home in Rupert Acres Trailer Park on Friday evening around 10:20 p.m.

A neighbor who knew the owner’s of a residence nearby were away noticed someone walking around in the residence and called Police.

OPP attended the scene and arrested and charged a 15 year old male youth who was located in the residence with Break and Enter and Breach of Probation.

ATV FOUND BURNED

(Kars, Twp., Ont.) On Saturday, the 26th April 2008 around 12:00 p.m. Sault Ste. Marie OPP were called to a logging road off of Four Seasons Drive in Kars Township.

A passing motorist found a burned ATV on the bush road just off the traveled portion of the roadway. The vehicle was burned to the frame.

ALCOHOL AND SMELTING DON’T MIX

(Havilland Twp.) The local smelt fishing season has just begun and OPP have already been receiving complaints in the Havilland area.

Officers were called to the Old Mill Bay Road area on Saturday evening to respond to a complaint about a large fire.

A group of youths were located smelting at Jones’ Creek.

Charged with Having Open Liquor in Other than Licensed Premise under the Liquor License
Act of Ontario is 19 year old Craig PINDER of Connor Road in Sault Ste. Marie.

Later that evening while on foot patrol of the Harmony Beach area, 20 year old Ryan DRAKE, of Macomb, Michigan was also charged under the Liquor License Act of Ontario with Having Open Liquor in Other that Licensed Premise.

The OPP receive complaints from area residents every year about the No Parking Zone on Harmony Beach Road.

If your vehicle is parked in this area it WILL be towed and cost $110.00 for disobeying an official sign under the Highway Traffic Act.

KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD

(MacDonald Township, Ont.) Officers from the Sault Ste. Marie OPP detachment responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 638 at Bar River Road yesterday evening at 22:45 p.m..

The driver of a 2007 BMW was eastbound on Highway 638 when he failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection of Bar River Road and drove into the ditch.

There were no injuries to the driver but the vehicle had to be towed.

Charged with Careless Driving under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario is 21 year old Hao Yu WU of Edmonton, Alberta.
