(Blind River, Ont.) On April 19, 2008 at 1:41 a.m. officers of the East Algoma OPP were dispatched to attend a single motor vehicle collision in Blind River.

Following the investigation David Edward SUTCH (19) of Brantford has been charged with the following:
Impaired Driving
Over 80
Possession of Cannabis Marihuana

SUTCH is scheduled to appear in court on July 3rd, 2008.

VERBAL ARGUMENT TURNS TO ASSAULT

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) Police attended a residence in Elliot Lake on April 18, 2008 regarding a possible assault complaint.

On scene police received the information that a female had allegedly assaulted the complainant during a verbal argument.

Charged with Assault is a 17-year-old female from Elliot Lake. The accused is scheduled to appear in court on June 3rd, 2008. The name of the accused will not be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

WHY???????????

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) Police are currently investigating a rash of mischief to vehicles.

On April 19th, 2008 police attended at the corner of Ontario Avenue and Hillside Drive North regarding several mischief to vehicles on the lot.

Police learned that the damage occurred sometime between April 18th, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. and April 19th, 2008 8:00 a.m. Eight new Chev/GMC 2008 pick-up trucks were damaged and one personal vehicle.

MISCHIEF TO VACANT BUILDING

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On Saturday the 19th of April 2008 at approximately 4:46 p.m. police were contacted to attend the area of Mary Walk in Elliot Lake regarding a broken window.

The broken window is out of the door situate at 20 Mary Walk. Estimated cost of damage is $200.00.

Spring Seat Belt Campaign Continues

Sault Ste Marie OPP officer continued to work hard on seat belt enforcement this past weekend. Officers checked 1022 vehicles laying 20 seat belt , 11 speeding and 7 other traffic related charges. The good news was that RIDE was conducted in 17 different locations with only 1 driver having consumed alcohol and that driver passed a roadside screening test. The police continue to be amazed with the number of drivers and passengers who are not buckling up. You are a very poor gambler if you thing the odds are in your favor to survive a crash without injuries if you are not buckled up.

Damage to MTO Signs

Two MTO signs on highway # 17 in laird township were damaged something between 10:00 am and 7:00 P.M. The divided highway sign and wrong way sign were damaged. The police are seeking the publics assistance in solving this reckless act of vandalism. Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.


Abandoned Car Found on Hwy 17 North of Wawa

(Wawa, Ontario):On April 19th 2008 at approximately 6:40AM, Superior East OPP, Wawa checked an abandoned vehicle 25 kms North of Wawa on Hwy 17. The 2003 brown Chev Impala with an Alberta licence plate was parked on the southbound side of the highway with the passenger doors open and the car motor running.
No one was found near the vehicle and it appears there were injuries sustained within the car.

The Northeast Regional Crime Unit, OPP Canine, OPP Emergency Response Team, Forensic Indent Unit and the OPP Helicopter are assisting Superior East OPP with the investigation.

OPP are asking anyone that may have been driving in that area early this morning and has any information to call OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

UPDATED INFORMATION: OPP recovered the body of a male person from Catfish Creek near the location of the abandoned vehicle. Police continue their investigation to determine any connection there may be to the vehicle and to positively identify the victim.
