A 38-year-old man from Sault Ste. Marie has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime thanks to the sharp eye of an off-duty officer from Batchewana First Nation Police Service.
On July 20 the member was travelling to work for the start of his shift when they made note of a suspicious vehicle towing a boat trailer at a local campground in the community of Garden River First Nation, a news release said. Once at the office, the officer queried the plates on the pickup truck and trailer and contacted the registered owner who confirmed they had a boat and trailer parked at the campground and no one was to have access to a boat and trailer.
Shortly after 8:15 p.m., while patrolling the community of Batchewana First Nation, police observed this same pickup truck with two people unhooking the trailer on a property on Gran Street.
One person fled the scene, the second suspect was arrested, the release said.
