The Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police is investigating after humans remains were discovered in Espanola.

Officers were dispatched to a wooded area in Espanola at around 11:40 a.m. on April 18.

“The identity of the deceased has not yet been determined,” OPP said. “The investigation is continuing with the assistance of the North East Region Crime Unit, OPP Forensic Identification Services, and the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OCCO-OFPS)."

Police believe there is no threat to public safety.
