Group from southern Ontario busted with $29K in drugs

Four people — including three from southern Ontario — are facing a long list of drugs and weapons charges after a traffic stop in Espanola Sunday night.

The OPP says on Aug. 18, officers pulled over a vehicle going north on Highway 6 at approximately 10:30 p.m. 

“Upon speaking with the occupants of the vehicle, police could smell an odour of cannabis,” says a news release issued by the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police.

A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up a loaded handgun, approximately $7,000 in Canadian currency, and approximately 195 grams of suspected cocaine, hydromorphone and oxycodone pills with an estimated street value of $29,000. 

All four people in the vehicle were arrested.

Kaleb Borden, 22, from Thornhill is charged with:

  • possession of a prohibited device for a dangerous purpose
  • transport firearm in a careless manner
  • carrying concealed weapon
  • unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm
  • occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited weapon
  • possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition
  • possession of a loaded prohibited firearm
  • possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - three counts
  • failure to comply with undertaking - two counts

Ashley Corbiere-McLean, 21, from M'Chigeeng First Nation is charged with:

  • possession of a prohibited device for a dangerous purpose
  • transport firearm in a careless manner
  • carry concealed prohibited device
  • unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm
  • occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited weapon
  • possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition
  • possession of a loaded prohibited firearm
  • possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - three counts
  • failure to comply with undertaking - five counts

Andrew Dover, 22, of Toronto is charged with:

  • possession of a prohibited device for a dangerous purpose
  • transport firearm in a careless manner
  • carrying concealed weapon
  • unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm
  • occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited weapon
  • possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition
  • possession of a loaded prohibited firearm
  • possession of firearm contrary to Prohibition Order
  • fail to comply with Probation Order - two counts
  • possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - three counts
  • drive vehicle with cannabis readily available
  • drive motor vehicle, no current validated permit

Junior Stone, 23, of London is charged with:

  • possession of prohibited device for a dangerous purpose
  • transport firearm in a careless manner
  • carrying concealed weapon
  • unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm
  • occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited weapon
  • possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition
  • possession of a loaded prohibited firearm
  • possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - three counts
  • possess more than one licence

All four accused were held in custody pending bail hearings in Sudbury.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and all four suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
