A driver from Goulais River was charged with impaired driving following an OPP traffic stop in Heyden on the evening of Nov. 7.
Shortly after 6:30 p.m., "officers with the Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police were conducting general patrol, when they observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 17 near Sixth Line," says a news release issued by OPP.
A traffic stop was conducted in Heyden and officers determined that the driver, 24-year-old Clayton Isaac Hult, was under the influence of alcohol, the release says.
As a result, Hult is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 2 and stands charged with:
• Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
• Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
Hult was issued a 90-day administrative drivers licence suspension, and had their vehicle impounded for seven days.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and the suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
