DRIVER FLEES FROM POLICE

(Fenwick Twp., ON)At approximately 1:00 am this morning an OPP officer patrolling westbound on Mission Road in Goulais River, Ontario, observed a vehicle heading eastbound.

The officer stopped the cruiser and activated the emergency lights to stop the approaching white Chevrolet Cavalier car approaching his traffic stop.

The car did not slow down and drove past the officer’s location.

The officer lost sight of the car and shortly thereafter came upon a single motor vehicle collision in which the white Chevrolet Cavalier was involved.

The vehicle had rolled over in the northbound ditch.

The male driver fled on foot and was located by Police a short distance from the collision scene and apprehended.

Further investigation revealed that the male had items in his possession that had just been reported stolen from a residence on Goulais Mission Road.

Nineteen year old Jacob, Joseph MOREAU of Brundy Avenue, Timmins, Ontario, was arrested and charged with the following:

Three counts of Break and Enter and two counts of Possession of Stolen Property contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada; one count of Operating a motor vehicle – no insurance, Driving while under suspension and Failing to stop for Police contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing today in Sault Ste. Marie Provincial Court.
