RIDE program leads to huge stash of marijuana in Mattawa

MATTAWA - On November 24, 2011 at approximately 8:40 p.m., members of the Mattawa Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment were conducted RIDE on Valois Dr. in Mattawa.

The officers stopped a vehicle being operated by two (2) young persons, a male and a female.

During the course of the RIDE spot check, police seized 19 pounds (lbs) of marijuana with a street value of $171,000.

A 17-year-old female from Garson, Ontario and a 17-year-old male from Sudbury, Ontario are each charged with:

  • Trafficking a schedule II drug contrary to section 5 (1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking a schedule II drug over 3kg contrary to section 5 (2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • Possession schedule II drug over 30 grams contrary to section 4 (1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Both accused parties have been held in custody pending a bail hearing today in North Bay.
