(Blind River, ON.) – On November 10, 2011 at 8:30 p.m. East Algoma-Blind River OPP detachment received a call of a missing hunter near 68 Bay of Lake Matinenda north of Blind River. Police were advised that 72 year old Jim MCELLISTRUM of Brooklin Ontario was hunting in the area with a group of friends.

Mr. Mcellistrum failed to return to the designated rendezvous spot so friends called police. The canine and marine unit along with the emergency response unit (ERT) of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the scene. Officers searched the shoreline and bush throughout the night but were unable to locate the missing man.

At 9:30 a.m. the helicopter from the OPP attended and was able to locate the missing hunter approximately 4 kilometres from where he was last seen. He was transported safely back to his friends without any injuries.

The OPP would like to remind hunters or anyone intending to go into the bush to always be prepared and have adequate clothing, equipment and supplies.
