Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision (Blind River, Ont.) At approximately 2:45 p.m. East Algoma O.P.P. received a report of a serious head on collision on Hwy 17 near the Mississauga First Nations Territory.

(Blind River, Ont.) At approximately 2:45 p.m. East Algoma O.P.P. received a report of a serious head on collision on Hwy 17 near the Mississauga First Nations Territory.

The accident occurred on a series of curves in the highway. Weather conditions were good and traffic was light.

Christine Van Der Meer a 42-year-old woman from Blind River succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at St Joseph’s Health Centre in Blind River.

The driver of a second vehicle, a 67-year-old man from Midland, received serious injuries and was transported by Air Ambulance to a Sudbury Hospital.

Officers from the Blind River O.P.P. and Technical Traffic Collision Investigator are investigating the collision.

STOLEN ATV LOCATED

Goulais River, Ont., Yesterday afternoon Sault Ste Marie OPP were notified of the whereabouts of the ATV that was stolen in a series of break ins on Goulais Mission Road.

Yesterday at about 4:00 p.m. the owner of the ATV received information where his stolen ATV was being hidden. The owner called the police and officers attended in the 300 area of Goulais Mission Road. They found the stolen ATV hidden in a bush area. There appeared to be no damage to the machine. It has been returned to the owner.

The investigation into a series of seven break and enters in the 1500 area of Goulais Mission Road is continuing.

ANOTHER DRUNK DRIVER TAKEN OFF THE ROAD

Heyden, Ont., A member of the OPP Traffic and Marine Unit, based out to the Sault Ste Marie Detachment, took another drunk driver off the road.

Yesterday at about 8:30 p.m. police were notified of a possible impaired driver around Beaumont Trailer Park in Heyden. Officers attended the area and located the suspect vehicle on Kim Drive in Beaumont Trailer Park. The truck was pulled over and the driver showed indicators that he had been drinking. A series of tests confirmed that the driver was over the legal limit to be driving.

Forty three (43) year old David Albert CHAPMAN of Birchgrove Road in Heyden has been charged with one count of Driving While Over the Legal Limit of .08 Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada . He has been asked to have someone else drive him to court on June 18, 2007.
