Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision (Thessalon Township, Ontario) On March 02, 2007 at approximately 3:30pm the East Algoma – Thessalon OPP were dispatched to a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision on Highway # 17 at Boundary Road.

(Thessalon Township, Ontario) On March 02, 2007 at approximately 3:30pm the East Algoma – Thessalon OPP were dispatched to a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision on Highway # 17 at Boundary Road.

An eastbound 2000 Kia Sophia motor vehicle was traveling on Highway # 17 at the Boundary Road intersection in Thessalon Township when it collided with a 1996 Plymouth Voyager van that had been traveling westbound on Highway # 17. The four occupants of the two motor vehicles were transported by ambulance to the Thessalon Hospital and three occupants were later transported to Sault Area Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie, with non-life threatening injuries. The passenger who had been traveling in the 2000 Kia Sophia was later pronounced dead at the Thessalon Hospital. Deceased is Etta Collver, age 86 of Thessalon Township.

As a result of the collision, Highway # 17 was open to single lane traffic for approximately 4 hours. The investigation into the cause of the collision is still under investigation by members of the Thessalon OPP Detachment.

Drug Bust in Hawk Junction

(Hawk Junction, Ontario) On Thursday the 1st of March 2007, the OPP Drug Enforcement Section, and the Superior East OPP executed a Controlled Drug and Substance Act search warrant at 79 College Street in Hawk Junction, approximately 20 km’s East of Wawa.

Police seized a quantity of Cannabis Resin in the form of Hashish, a small amount of Cannabis Marihuana, Cash, and Drug Paraphernalia.

42-year-old Billy Skouris of Hawk Junction has been charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance x 3, Possession of a Controlled Substance for the purpose of trafficking, and Careless Storage of a Firearm. He will appear in Wawa court on the 7th of May 2007 to answer to the charges.

Police are continuing this investigation.

Crossing Between Train Cars Results In Serious Injury

Batchawan First Nations Police were called to incident at 9:21 p.m. last night where a person was injured by a Central Huron Train. A group of 3 youths decided to cross between the cars of a stopped East Bound Central Huron Train. In group crossed from Trunk road Pontiac Street on the Batchawana First Nation. A 19 year old girl was crawling under the train when the 41 Unit train moved causing a serious injury to her. Transported to Sault Ste Marie Hospital was 19 year old Linday Agawa of MacDonald Twp. Police wish to remind all persons that crossing between the cars of a stopped train is extremely hazardous as trains can be set in motion with little or no sound.
