(Elliot Lake, Ontario) On June 3, 2004 at approximately 1:30 pm, the OPP located the body of a missing person that had been reported on June 2, 2004.

John Lewis McWATERS (66) of Elliot Lake has been identified as the missing person.

On May 31, 2004, McWATERS and a friend from Elliot Lake were out for a drive southbound on Highway 108 and ventured westbound onto Christie Lake Road. The vehicle they were traveling in got stuck in the mud at approximately 3:00 pm. The pair walked into the bush and became lost. On June 2, 2004 at approximately 7:15 am, the friend was able to find his way out of the bush and police were contacted.

The OPP Emergency Response Team, OPP Canine, the OPP Helicopter, Sault Search and Rescue and members of the East Algoma OPP assisted in the search.

A post mortem is scheduled in Sault Ste. Marie to determine the cause of death. Foul play is not suspected.
