GOULIGAN CHARGED AFTER HE PASSED STOPPED SCHOOL BUS

Goulais River, Ont.,

A Goulais River man has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act after passing a stopped school bus with it red lights flashing.

Yesterday at about 9:00 a.m. an officer with the Sault Ste Marie OPP Detachment was patrolling Hwy 17 north. The officer was north bound on Hwy 17 near Old Hwy 17 Rd. The school bus was stopped facing south on Hwy 17 with its lights flashing. The officer watched the driver go around the bus and continue traveling on Hwy 17.

Fifty six year old Donald SMITH of Hwy 17 in Goulais River has been charged with Failing to Stop For A School Bus While Overtaking contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario. If he is found guilty Mr. Smith will face a fine of $495.00 and have six demerit points added to his drivers licence record.

AND AGAIN…RADAR PATROL FINDS MORE THAN JUST SPEEDERS

Goulais River, Ont.,

Once again, an example how our radar and traffic enforcement by officers of the Sault Ste Marie OPP finds more than just speeders.

Last night at about 10:15 p.m. officers with the Sault Ste Marie Detachment were conducting radar enforcement on Hwy 17 in the Havilland Shores Drive area of Goulais River. The officers stopped a northbound pick up for traveling over 110 km/h in the posted 90 km/h zone. Officers discovered that the driver was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant for a domestic assault in 2004.

The man was taken into custody and held overnight for bail court this morning. Further investigation revealed that he does not have a licence to drive. The forty five year old Batchawana resident was also issued two traffic tickets. The one ticket for Driving With No Licence is $325.00 and his speeding ticket is worth $111. 25
