TRANSPORT ENDS UP IN THE DITCH

Garden River First Nation, Ont.,

A transport truck traveling on Hwy 17 early this morning has ended up in the ditch off Hwy 17 in Garden River.

This morning at about 5:15 a.m. a transport was headed west on Hwy 17 in Garden River. The driver advised police that he lost sight of the roadway in the blowing snow. When the snow cleared the truck was on the wrong side of the roadway. The driver attempted to steer into the proper lane but lost control of the rig.

The truck entered the ditch and stuck a utility pole. A hydro transformer was dislodged from its bracket and hanging from the pole. The truck is well off the highway and arrangements for it removal are being made by the driver.

No one was injured in the crash and the matter is still under investigation

PULL TO THE LEFT WHEN APPROACHING A STOPPED EMERGENCY VEHICLE OR ELSE!!!!

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP has charged a driver with Failing to Slow Down and Proceed with Caution for Emergency Vehicles.

On January 9th, 2007 while on the side of the road on Highway 108 an officer narrowly missed being struck by a vehicle.

April 3rd, 2003 Bill 191, the “Pull Over” or “Pull to the Left” law came into effect. The Highway Traffic Act require motorists on the same side of the road approaching a stopped emergency vehicle such as police, fire or ambulance, with flashing red lights, either in a lane or on the shoulder of the road, must slow down and proceed with caution. If the road has two or more lanes, the motorist must move over into another lane, if it can be done safely. Failure to do so, violators are subject to a total fine of $490.00 for a first offence and $1000 to $4000 for subsequent offences. Or to imprisonment for a maximum of six months, or to both a fine and imprisonment and a possible suspension of their driver’s licence for up to two years. All convictions will result in the addition of three (3) demerit points to a driver’s record.

A/S/Sgt Dean Ward states “Police will continue to enforce this law in order to protect the lives of all emergency personnel”.

PULL OVER – PULL TO THE LEFT!
