OPP TO PROMOTE SKI AND SNOW BOARD IDENTIFICATION PROGRAM AT SEARCHMONT

(Searchmont, Ont.) Members of the Sault Ste. Marie OPP detachment and Auxiliary Unit will on hand at Searchmont Ski Resort on Saturday, March 1st between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm to implement a ski and snow board I.D. program.

The goal of the program is to educate skiers and snowboarders about theft prevention and provide a means of keeping track and recording equipment in case of theft.

Ski equipment is an easy target, especially during busy weekends where a thief could easily take a pair of skis or snow board and blend in as just another skier.

Ski and Snowboard equipment is valuable. Follow these tips to prevent the theft of your ski equipment:

Lock up your equipment every time.

If you leave your skis, poles or board unattended, separate them and leave them in different
Locations.

If possible, keep your skis in sight at all times.

Use lockers to lock your equipment in while you’re out skiing. While many skiers don’t use
lockers, locking your bag away is a great way to prevent theft.

If you have extra equipment that you store in your car, keep it out of view. If possible, hide it
under your back seat or cover it with a blanket.

Record details of marked equipment and carry a filled out wallet card with you.

Following these simple steps can go a long way towards making your day on the slopes an enjoyable one.
