SNOW MACHINE MADNESS—THE WRONG TYPE

9Heyden, Ont.) Officers with the Sault Ste Marie OPP detachment did a lot of writing yesterday for some people who just don’t get it.

Yesterday at about 5:00 p.m. officers were conducting R.I.D.E. checks near the intersection of Hwy 17 and Hwy 556 in Heyden. Officers positioned themselves so that they could check vehicles on the highway and snow machines on the trail.

One snow machine came southbound on the trail and when he noticed the police he immediately turned northbound and attempted to avoid the police. One officer got in her cruiser and headed toward an area where she could block off the trial in the direction where the machine was headed. The driver turned around again and headed southbound in an attempt to avoid that officer. It appears that he forgot that the OPP have more than one cruiser because the second officer was near the end of the southbound trail. The driver eventually stopped going north and south on his snow machine and has been charged.

Forty three (43) year old Brent LECLAIR of 23 Marty Drive in Heyden now faces several charges. Mr. Leclair has been charged under the Motorized Snow Vehicle Act with Failing To Stop For Police and Driving While Under Suspension. He will appear in court on March 5, 2008 to answer to the charges.

SUSPENDED SNOW MACHINE DRIVER #2

(Sault Ste Marie, Ont.) Officers with the OPP Traffic and Marine Unit were also out on their snow machines yesterday.

At about 4:00 p.m. the officers checked a snow machine and driver near the trail system just off Third Line in Sault Ste Marie. Once again officers found that the snow machine operator had many legal issues.

The first problem was that the operator has had her drivers licence suspended and yet decided to drive a snow machine. She also had no registration numbers on the machine and could not produce any valid insurance for the machine.

Twenty seven (27) year old Shannon BOYER of 4 Alpine Street in Sault Ste Marie has been charged with Driving While Under Suspension, Failing to Display Registration Numbers and Failing to Produce Proof of Insurance. You should find Ms. Boyer sharing the same court room as Mr. Leclair on March 5, 2008.

….AND ONE MORE SNOW MACHINE STORY

(Sault Ste Marie, Ont.) Once again officers from the OPP Traffic and Marine Unit found another snow machine rider who has a problem proving things.

This person was stopped by the snow machine patrol yesterday and officers found the driver was unable to produce any documents for the machine he was riding. This time the officers only charged him with one offence.

Eighteen year old Alexandre FRIEDRICH of Wawa has been charged with Failing to Produce Evidence of Insurance. Mr. Friedrich doesn’t have to go to court with Mr. Leclair and Ms. Boyer unless he wants to. He can just mail his fine into the court house.
