Fatal motor vehicle collision closes Highway 17 (Sudbury, ON) - Officers of the Sudbury and Espanola Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police are currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred at approximately 6 p.m.

(Sudbury, ON) - Officers of the Sudbury and Espanola Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police are currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred at approximately 6 p.m. on Highway 17, three kilometers west of Nairn Centre.

The collision involves two tractor-trailer units, and three passenger vehicles.

One person has died as a result of the collision.
Two other people have been brought to Espanola General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
OPP technical traffic collision investigators and the OPP identification unit are on scene.
Highway 17 is expected to be closed until early morning while the investigation continues.
There is no detour available to traffic traveling on Highway 17


Fatal motor vehicle collision update

(Sudbury, ON) - Officers of the Sudbury and Espanola Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police have re-opened Highway 17.

The highway had been closed as a result of a fatal motor vehicle collision which occurred last evening at approximately 6 p.m. on Highway 17, three kilometers west of Nairn Centre.
Mark Stephens, age 47, of Little Current was killed in the collision.
The collision involves two tractor-trailer units, and three passenger vehicles.

Two other people were brought to Espanola General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
OPP technical traffic collision investigators and the OPP identification unit were on the scene all evening.
The investigation is continuing.
