Domestic violence investigation leads to charges for officer

Following an investigation by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Professional Standards Bureau (PSB) into a domestic violence complaint, an East Algoma OPP officer was arrested and charged on Thursday, July 31, 2014.

The 43-year-old male Provincial Constable has been charged with:

  • Assault Cause Bodily Harm x2;
  • Assault with a Weapon x2;
  • Assault x1;
  • Uttering Threats x2; and with
  • Pointing a Firearm x 2, contrary to the Criminal Code.

The officer is a 16-year member with the OPP and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on September 2, 2014. The officer has been suspended from duty with pay in accordance with the Police Services Act.

As with all domestic related incidents, the OPP does not release the name of the charged person to protect the privacy of victims of domestic violence.
