SAULT STE. MARIE OPP WILL BE ON THE LOOKOUT THIS HOLIDAY WEEKEND

(Sault Ste. Marie, ON) Members of the Sault Ste. Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police will be out in full force this Civic long weekend

Officers will be on look out for Driving and Boating infractions.

There will be zero tolerance for boaters who do not have the required number of life jackets onboard and the same can be expected for alcohol related infractions. Also make sure you carry properly maintained safety equipment.

In 2007, North East Region officers investigated 5 marine fatalities. To date, this year there have been 5 deaths and life jackets could have made a difference.

ATV riding also has its risks. In 2007, 5 people were killed while ATVing. In a matter of a few seconds lives were changed forever. Riders need to control speeds, an ATV rollover happens just that quickly. Know your machine, drive within your ability and keep alcohol out of the mix.

Stay safe, and enjoy the Civic Holiday Weekend responsibly.
