(Serpent River First Nations, Ont.) Police are currently investigating a break enter and theft at Jeff’s Smoke Shop on Highway 17.

The victim reports that on April 21st, 2008 when attending his business, he noted that he had been victims of a break enter and theft.

Investigation revealed unknown person(s) gained entry and took chocolate bars, cigarettes and a cash register with an undisclosed amount of money.

Anyone with information regarding the above break enter and theft is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-705-942-7867 Or 1-800-222-8477.

Investigation continuing.

STOP FOR A SCHOOL BUSES OR ……IT WILL COST YOU!

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On April 22, 2008 the East Algoma OPP – Elliot Lake received a complaint of a vehicle failing to stop for a school bus.

Police investigated and charged a local male with Fail to Stop For School Bus, which carries a fine of $405.00 plus court cost. A total of $500.00.

Police would like to remind everyone the importance of stopping for school buses when lights are activated. The activated lights indicate that children are in the process of embarking or disembarking the school bus.

The East Algoma OPP would like to remind everyone that the registered owner of the vehicle is responsible and can be charged if a report regarding the vehicle is received.

SCHOOL INCIDENT LEADS TO CHARGES

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) East Algoma OPP have arrested and charged a 14-year-old female with several charges. Charges stem from a complaint received on April 23rd, 2008 regarding a possible threatening at a local high school.

Police investigated and charged the accused with the following:

Utter Treat to Cause Death or Bodily Harm
Possession of a Weapon

The 14-year-old female is scheduled to appear in court on June 3rd, 2008.

DRIVER CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED

(Desbarats, Ontario) On Tuesday April 22, 2008 at approximately 6:00 p.m. the East Algoma Thessalon Detachment were advised of a motor vehicle collision on Government Road in Desbarats, Ontario.

The motor vehicle was westbound on Government Road, hitting the North shoulder and then crossed the roadway into the South ditch, striking a pole.

The driver, Ben Auger (19) of Desbarats, Ontario has been charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with:

Impaired Driving, Section 253(a) and
Operate Motor Vehicle – Over 80 mgs, Section 253(b)

Auger was released on a Promise to Appear in Thessalon court on May 29, 2008.

WINDOW BROKEN AT AREA HIGHSCHOOL

(Desbarats, Ontario) On Thursday April 24, 2008 at approximately 7:00 a.m. the East Algoma Thessalon Detachment were contacted regarding a broken window at Central Algoma Secondary School, located in Desbarats, Ontario. Suspects threw a large boulder through the doors at the front of the school.

The mischief occurred overnight sometime between 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday April 23, 2008 and Thursday morning at 7:00 a.m.

The damage is estimated at $1000.

SINGLE MOTOR VEHCILE COLLISON ON NORTH HIGHWAY

(Fenwick Twp., Ont.) Ontario Provincial Police responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 in Fenwick Township yesterday morning around 10:15 a.m..

A 2003 Mazda Protégé was traveling southbound on Highway 17 in Fenwick Township when the driver lost control, crossed the northbound lane and rolled over into the eastbound ditch.

There were two occupants in the vehicle and fortunately no one was injured. This can be accredited to the fact that both the male driver and female passenger were wearing their seatbelts.

The vehicle was demolished and had to be towed.

Charged with making an Unsafe Lane Change under the Highway Traffic Act is 19 year old Dominic MATTE, of Quebec City.

SINGLE MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISON ON EAST HIGHWAY SEND ONE WOMAN TO HOSPITAL

(Laird Twp., Ont.) Yesterday evening around 8:00 p.m. officers from the Sault Ste. Marie OPP Detachment, Echo Bay Fire Department and Ambulance responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 just East at Calabogie Road.

A 1992 Silver Saturn was traveling west bound on Highway 17 when it left the roadway and struck a light pole on the west side of the Highway past Calabogie Road.

The highway was reduced to one lane as the female driver was extricated from the vehicle.

29 year old Courtney Lahde of Terry Fox Place in Sault Ste. Marie was transported to Sault Area Hospital with non life threatening injuries.

The collision is still under investigation.
