TOWNSHIP OF THE NORTH SHORE – A local resident has been charged after police say an intoxicated person who was "apparently bored" made three 911 calls about matters that police say were not emergencies.
East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police say on Oct. 11 at around 11:30 p.m. they responded to a false 911 call made from a residence on Highway 17 in the village of Spragge.
It was the caller's third call to 911 that day, police allege.
"Investigation determined the caller was intoxicated for all three 911 calls and was apparently bored," police said in a release.
Police say the caller was warned each time not to call 911 for non-emergency matters.
The first false 911 call had come in at around 3:30 a.m. and the second at around 8:30 p.m., police say.
"The accused was spoken to again and warned," police said.
After a third false 911 call, the caller appears to have struck out when it comes to warnings.
The caller was arrested and "lodged at the Blind River OPP detachment until sober," police said.
Jackie McColl, 48, of Spragge is charged with harassing communications.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Dec. 5.
None of the allegations have been tested in court and McColl is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
