Ditched vehicle on Hwy. 17 leads to impaired charges

A driver from Cambridge, Ont. faces impaired charges after driving into a ditch on Highway 17 near Bruce Mines on Saturday afternoon.

East Algoma OPP responded to the scene at around 3:45 p.m. and allege the driver had consumed alcohol, says a news release issued by the Ontario Provincial Police.

The driver was taken to the Sault Ste. Marie OPP detachment for further testing.

Thomas Holland, 59, is charged with:

    •    Operation while impaired - alcohol
    •    Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

His vehicle was impounded for seven days and he was issued a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension.

Holland is scheduled to appear in court in Elliot Lake on Nov. 7.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Holland is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
