Ditched truck leads to impaired driving charge in Goulais area

Police have charged Diane Boyer with impaired driving after responding to a report that a pickup truck was stuck in a ditch in the Goulais River area, states a release issued by the Sault Ste. Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

Full text of the release follows:

KARS TOWNSHIP - On Feb. 16, 2022 shortly after 8 p.m., members from the Sault Ste. Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a pickup truck that was stuck in a ditch on Mission Road in Kars Township.

Police attended the scene and the vehicle had been removed. A short time later, the pickup truck was located and a traffic stop was initiated on Highway 552 West in Fenwick Township. While speaking to the driver, the officer determined alcohol had been consumed. The driver was arrested and transported to Sault Ste. Marie OPP detachment where further testing would be conducted. While at the detachment the driver refused the breath demand.

As a result, Diane Boyer, 62 years of age from Batchewana First Nation, was charged with:
    •    operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
    •    failure or refusal to comply with demand, contrary to section 320.15(1) of the CC
    •    drive motor vehicle - no licence, contrary to section 32(1) of the Highway Traffic Act

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie on April 14, 2022.
