HURON SHORES – Police say a driver has been arrested after a small, slow-moving car with extensive damage raised suspicions on Friday east of the Sault.

At around 4 p.m., the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police was called about a suspicious vehicle that pulled into the driveway of a local business on Highway 17 in Iron Bridge.

The car left and headed eastbound and was later seen travelling 40 km/h in a 70 km/h zone on Causley Street in Blind River, police say. That's when police initiated a traffic stop.

According to an OPP news release, police determined the car was stolen. The driver was arrested.

Police said the canine unit assisted with a search of the vehicle and located more than 3 grams of suspected crystal meth, which police said had an estimated street value of $300.

Kulwinder Singh, 29, of Winnipeg is charged with:

  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
  • Possession of a schedule I substance-methamphetamine

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Oct. 3.

The OPP said the Edmonton Police Service was notified that the vehicle was recovered in Blind River.

None of the allegations have been tested in court and Singh is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
