A retirement home employee is being accused of stealing from a resident.

Ontario Provincial Police say in mid-October, the resident noticed cash was missing from their room and they suspected theft.

After that, the resident set up a camera.

On Saturday, Nov. 2, while the resident was out of their room eating breakfast, OPP say the camera caught an employee entering the tenant’s room and going through drawers and a wallet.

The incident was reported to the retirement home administrative director and police were contacted.

On Tuesday, 42-year-old Jamie-Lynn Joncas of Elliot Lake was charged with:

  • Break, enter a place with intent to commit indictable offence
  • Criminal breach of trust

None of the allegations have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
